Union Square Hotels

One of New York’s most culturally significant parks, Union Square is a spot to stroll, eat lunch, or simply people watch. The leafy plaza is perhaps best known for its centrepiece - a grand bronze statue of a horse-mounted George Washington, which dates back to 1856. Appropriately named, the square draws in all manner of people, from poets and street performers, to protesters, chess players, and those browsing the Farmer’s markets’ fresh produce.

Things to see

Alongside the statue of America’s 1st president (the oldest statue in the New York City Park’s collection), the park is home to several more. Among them you’ll see depictions of Marquis de Lafayette, Abraham Lincoln, and Mahatma Gandhi. Roughly 2 miles north of Union Square, you’ll find the Big Apple’s most famous landmark – Times Square. A neon-drenched nerve centre packed with colourful billboards and glossy flagship stores; it bustles day and night with power-walking pedestrians and a sea of yellow cabs. Incase you missed the vast advertisements, it’s also part of New York’s legendary Broadway Theatre District – also known as the Great White Way. With its world-class collection of glitzy venues, here theatregoers can take in everything from hit dramas to long-running musicals. Minutes away you’ll find one of the world’s most recognizable structures - the Empire State Building. The 1,454 foot tall Art Deco tower features 2 observation areas, which boast some of New York’s most breath-taking views.
