Horrible Experience for 2 Families!
-Tried this because I was visiting my son in NYC. Thought to try a 1 bedroom apt. rental cause of a late check in -When at apt bldg, had to call a person to get the code for the lock box storing the key. Had to leave a message when he didn't answer so went to dinner. Contact texted the code and we went back to the apt bldg. -Another family was there trying to get key box open. Both of our keys were in the same lock box (Horrible idea!). We all tried for almost an hour to get it to open while waiting for the contact to call back again. Finally we broke the lock. -My key was there but the wrong apartment key was left for the family of 4 who had just arrived from Europe to vacation in the USA. They called & guy said he only gave out the code to the key box and they had to contact management in the morning. It was almost midnight at this point. -Someone tried to get into my apt at 10AM. Luckily I had the chain on and yelled out and they left. At 10:45 my door was jiggled again, opened and pushed against the chain. It was the cleaning lady again who rudely told me to get out. Checkout was at 11AM so I closed the door and told her I would leave at 11! -Bath- 1 trash can, no washcloth, strange towels, no shower soap/shampoo, mildew shower curtain, no counter space -Kitchen-no trash can, broken faucet -Bedroom-lamp cord didn't reach to the socket! Old soda spills on the wall, broken vacuum part on closet floor -YECH!!!!!!!!!

Bigger than expected
The other reviews were right-3 flights up, no soap, no paper towels and it could have used more towels. However, the space was bigger than I expected. It was clean. It could use a coat of paint in some places. There is not air conditioning in all rooms. I was really comfortable and felt safe. I would stay there again definitely.

2/10 Poor

Like crashing at a stranger's house
A disaster. I booked a hotel on this site thinking it was a hotel--this is actually a vacant apartment. No amenities except towels and glassware. I was told if I wanted to check in I had to walk 3 blocks (with a huge bag and portfolio) to a different building to pick up the keys, which were in a mislabeled envelope so when I finally got back to the actual apartment building the room was in I walked into a surprised stranger's living room. None of the windows locked, weird for a fire escape access building. It's a walk up so my bags were really a problem. I had to email for the wifi password, and I wasn't told when check out time was, leading the housekeeper to be very nasty to me. I felt like a squatter. Only good thing is that it was next to my event.

Very so-so
You have to call ahead to make sure that someone is there to let you in. Room is banged up. Cigarettes on the window-sill outside the shower. Stove buttons grimed up because never removed when cleaning. Location is fine, and this is not inexpensive, but they could do better in terms of cleanliness. This is a typical New York apartment, not luxury hotel living. I would return, and I can recommend it but dull your expectations.

Different... No hand soap
Well I arrived a bit earlier then expected and had to wait over an hour to get into the apartment. I only got in when one of the other residents of the apartment came home. Luckily (??) the maid had an emergency and had to leave early so the apartment was unlocked and the keys were in the microwave. Then I realize there is no shampoo (which is fine) or hand soap (not fine). So I had to go make a trip to find find something to wash myself with....It's a noisy area. I'm sure all of NYC is. So just bring ear plugs.

over-booked
The hotel overbooked. Even though we'd booked a month ahead of time, the hotel (via Hotels.com) didn't tell us our room wasn't available until 11:15 a.m. the day we were to arrive -as we were on the train to New York. Hotels.com was great and re-booked us into another hotel, but it was 4 hours of stress not knowing if we had a room to stay in that night, and we had to haul our luggage 6 blocks and pay to store it for the day. Would never again book at a hotel that would pull that nonsense.

Ad didn't live up to reality
This was not a great experience. The Hotels.com bill was for a different amount than the actual fee...which was lower. (I think that the charge was for the lower amount, but I don't know, yet.) It was unclear that this was an apartment in a building with no office. When the substitute(?) maid was found and gave me a key, we found that neither her master nor my key worked without a struggle in the apartment lock. I couldn't make it work at all. (I called the office, again, and was told that a non-working lock did not mean I could leave and get my money back!) That night, I piled furniture in front of the unlocked door. Since there was no bath nor hand soap, in the morning I took a shower with the 1/4 tsp of Palmolive dish soap remaining in the bottle in the kitchen. So nope, not a great experience.

Bien placé mais sale
Personne pour l'état des lieux ni à l'arrivée ni au départ. Appartement sale, portes et tiroirs de cuisine cassés, robinetterie non fixée, salle de bain non nettoyée à notre arrivée. Lit inconfortable au possible. Une seule petite cuillère, un seul bol, pas de saladier ni de passoire, un four mais aucun plat pouvant y aller! Et ce ne sont que des exemples... Avantages : bien placé dans l'upper east side, relativement calme, à 2 rues de central park. Wifi gratuit. Dommage, il suffirait d'entretenir un peu et ce serait très bien.
