      Disappointed

Stayed for 4 nights in a suite as part of a family trip. Although the hotel was accepting of my involvement in meal planning for my kids there was just simply a disconnect between the in-room meal service staff that would regularly take our meal requests and what was made in their kitchens and delivered to the room. I can say that my average requirements were met, but not exceeded. I expected more from the kids meals. Considering the cost of the stay and the effort I had made to communicate with the reservations staff prior to my arrival, I was disappointed. Overall, this stay did not leave me with a feeling to return in the future.

Love the private open air bath and delicious break

Overall our stay for 3 nights were very nice. Room is very nice with open air bath and lovely views. Outdoor public baths are in good design. Breakfast is delicious with variety of japanese food especially curry and seafood don. However, the hotel should inform guests that train service is suspended at Gora station. Luckily we found out when browsing train schedules. I have contacted hotel twice which bus we should take to arrive Ten-Yu. The Odakyu lines staff told me to take bus no 5 with 1 min walk. But your hotel staff told me we should take bus no. 3. The bus stopped at Yunessen. We had to carry our big luggage’s walking up to the slopes for 6 minutes to arrive the hotel. In our room, your housekeeping cleaner has removed my personal toothbrush. I cannot find it!! The basin still had stains!!

This was our second time staying at the Kowakien Tenyu, and once again it did not disappoint. The main draw for us is the two large hot spring baths which alternate between men and women every other day. One is in a natural setting with a beautiful waterfall and the other is a sleek modern bath with an infinity edge overlooking the mountains. The water is very hot but soothing once you get used to it and minerals in the water is great for arthritis and other aches and pains. The other draw is the fantastic half-board which includes breakfast and dinner. The dinner is a multi course feast for both the eyes and the pallet. This time the breakfast was a buffet which we didn’t like as much as the a la carte offering last time. The rooms are spacious and beautiful with western style beds and tatami mats. They are very clean and well maintained. There’s a bus stop down the hill as well as up the hill. Apparently the hotel provides a free shuttle from Gora station which we didn’t know about in advance. Highly recommend!
