Find out more about Cotai

Cotai Hotels

Salvaged from the grip of the ocean by a land reclamation programme, Cotai has given Macau even more space to play with, and the land now houses some of the ‘Monte Carlo of the Orient’s’ most outlandish casino and hotel complexes. Your head will be spinning, as you try your luck on dazzlingly extravagant casino floors, and hit the jackpot during your time in this all-singing-all-dancing part of magical Macau.

Things to see

Cotai is dominated by the sprawling the Venetian resort, which blends the canals, gondolas and fancy restaurants of Venice, with a healthy dose of Vegas’ over-exuberance. Located in one of the biggest buildings in the world, this mammoth complex lets you try out your baccarat skills with the high rollers, or lean back as your gondolier propels you through Venice’s lovingly recreated canals. When it’s time to spend your newly acquired winnings, you won’t have far to walk to reach Sands Cotai Central - where sleek handbags and glittering shoes, produced by the world’s leading designers, await. It’ll quickly become clear to you that Macau is a destination aiming for the sky, and nowhere is this surge more evident than at the Macau Tower - the summit of which offers awe-inspiring views over the rippling bay and neon haze of the casinos. You’ll have plenty of time to enjoy the sight, as you plummet through the air, after leaping from one of the wold’s highest bungee-jumping platforms.

Hotels in Cotai

The resort hotels in Cotai are mind-warping in their scale, and whether you want to hit the slots, or settle in for a bombastic show - featuring billows of water pirouetting over acrobats - you’ll find no shortage of choice awaiting you. Wynn Palace give you the chance to cool off from the heat, by dipping into achingly blue swimming pools, surrounded by soft sun loungers and attentive bar staff. Or, hit your room to fire up some chilled entertainment, courtesy of the flat-screen television, and climate control that’s waiting. Sit and soak in a sumptuous bath, while looking down over the streets below from your high rise hotel, or head to the bar, where your bartender will juggle and rattle cocktail shakers until late.

Where to stay

The Cotai Strip’s glittering hotels and casinos will leave you starry-eyed, as you wander below reaching palm trees. Or, roll the dice and try neighbouring Taipa, to be as close as possible to the long bridge that links the island with the rest of the Macau Peninsula. Dive into the local culture, at the Museum of Taipa and Coloane History, and learn how the locals developed early fishing techniques to plunder the ocean, and how they adapted to the Portuguese who arrived to colonise the peninsular in the 16th century. If the European-influence interests you, then the Historical Centre of Macau is a must visit. Beautiful colonial architecture glows lemon-yellow and duck-egg blue in the sun here, while the towering facade of St. Paul's Cathedral provides a dramatic vision of Portuguese religious architecture.

How to get to Cotai

Cotai is one of the easiest places to get to in Macau, thanks to the airport that lies close by. Most international visitors actually arrive by ferry, however, which is quick and easy to arrange directly from the international hub that is Hong Kong airport. The trip across to Macau takes around an hour, and you can bypass Hong Kong’s immigration process by departing directly from the airport’s ‘SkyPier,’ once you’ve touched down. Most hotels run shuttle services, which can help you to explore the peninsular, or you can always rely on the island’s abundant taxi and bus services.
