Saint-Tropez Hotels

The classic summertime retreat of the jet-setting glitterati, Saint-Tropez was put on the map back in the 50’s by trendsetting bombshell, Brigitte Bardot. And whilst God might’ve created woman, the rich, famous, and fabulous have all had a hand in shaping this little haven on the French Riviera. From its glossy yacht filled harbour and glamorous gourmet restaurants, to its luxury label boutiques and celeb-infested nightspots – if you’re an aficionado of the champagne lifestyle, then Saint-Tropez is where it’s at.

Things to see

Surrounded by ochre-coloured buildings, the Port of Saint Tropez is the town’s iconic centrepiece, where shiny multi-million pound pleasure boats bob on the sapphire blue water. After a day’s yachting, its waterfront bars and restaurants provide some ritzy respite – and if you keep your eyes peeled, you may just spy an A-lister or two. Not all about the here and now however, the town boasts a centuries-old history too, as the Saint Tropez Citadel will attest. Dating back to 1602, the stocky stone structure offers spectacular views over the terracotta-tiled sprawl, and houses a maritime museum within its dungeons. Place des Lices hosts the town’s open-air market on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Shaded by a canopy of leafy trees, its stalls brim with everything from fresh food and antiques, to handmade soaps and fragrant flowers. Vibrantly adored with thousands of preserved butterflies, La Maison des Papillons occupies the former home of socialite Madeleine Messager - the first wife of famed photographer, Jacques Lartigue.

Hotels in Saint-Tropez

Pampering to the discerning tastes of the well-heeled, it’ll be of no surprise that the hotels in Saint-Tropez don’t come cheap. If you’ve got a suitably hefty budget however, you’ll have your pick of the town’s most luxurious digs, which range from swanky 5-star establishments, to characterful low-key villa hotels – neatly secluded from the prying lenses of the paparazzi. Amenities to expect include chic on-site restaurants and bar lounges, as well as picturesque outdoor terraces bejewelled with shimmering swimming pools. Sumptuous suites spare none of the creature comforts, including WiFi and satellite television, and often open onto private balconies. Hôtel Le Y and Hôtel Restaurant Le Yaca are top rated hotels.

Where to stay

Wherever your hotel in Saint-Tropez, the town’s walkable size puts most things a pleasant stroll away. Much of the bustle is centred on the waterfront, where you can dine in upscale restaurants, splurge in exclusive stores, or sample the famous Tarte Tropezienne in a café. Whilst prices here tend to be eye-wateringly expensive, a short stroll inland will lead you towards the town’s slightly more modest offerings. If you find yourself craving some beach-based R&R, then Plage de Pampelonne offers an immaculate stretch of bleach blonde sand. Whilst it’s several kilometres out of town, some hotels in Saint-Tropez provide guests with a shuttle service.

How to get to Saint-Tropez

Toulon-Hyeres Airport and Nice Cote d’Azur Airport are often the gateways of choice for international visitors. Toulon-Hyeres is the nearest at 50 minutes away and serves a handful of destinations, with seasonal flights to London, Lyon, and Rotterdam, and year-round flights to Paris. Whilst Nice Cote d’Azur is 90 minutes away, it’s the better connected of the two. Along with links throughout Europe, it provides services to major cities in Africa, the United States, and the Middle East. Saint-Tropez is also a popular stop off for cruise liners, where passengers are dropped off right in the heart of town.
