Find out more about Tokyo Tower

Tokyo Tower Hotels

Though it’s been surpassed as Japan’s tallest structure by the space-age Tokyo Skytree, the soaring, brightly-coloured Tokyo Tower remains one of the city’s most awe-inspiring and iconic sights. Closely modelled on the Eiffel Tower, but ever so slightly taller, this orange and white communications tower soars above the sprawling Minato ward, one of Tokyo’s most thrilling and eclectic locations. From the expat nightlife hotspot of Roppongi, to the quirky island getaway of Odaiba, there’s something in this district to enthral every visitor.

Things to see

There’s no better way to get your bearings in this teeming metropolis than a trip up to the Tokyo Tower observatory. There are 2 main observation decks, both of which offer unrivalled panoramic views of the astonishing Tokyo skyline. On a clear day you’ll see the whole city sprawling out underneath your feet, whilst if you visit after dark, you’ll be greeted by the spectacle of glittering skyscrapers soaring over neon-soaked streets. Back down at the base of the tower, you’ll find FootTown, a 4-storey entertainment complex stuffed with fun, family-friendly attractions like the Guinness World Records Museum and the Tokyo Tower Wax Museum.

The Minato ward is also home to some of the city’s finest museums and cultural attractions. Designed by pioneering architect Kisho Kurokawa, the wave-shaped National Art Centre, Tokyo, or NACT, is a thrilling work of art in and of itself. But with an innovative, ever-changing programme of temporary exhibitions, it’s well worth venturing inside once you’ve marvelled at its mesmerising exterior.

Hotels in Tokyo Tower

As you might expect from such a central and prestigious location, there’s a plethora of exceptional hotels near Tokyo Tower for you to choose from. If you’re looking to splurge, you’ll find opulent 4-5 star hotels housed in spectacular skyscrapers such as Tokyo Prince Hotel, boasting facilities like indulgent full-service spas, sleek fitness studios, and gourmet restaurants, and offering rooms with magical views, and luxurious touches like free designer toiletries, deep soaking bathtubs, and crisp, premium bed linen.

If your budget won’t stretch to such decadence, there are pristine mid-range hotels such as Hotel Villa Fontaine Tokyo-Roppongi, where you can enjoy lovely amenities like shimmering outdoor swimming pools, free WiFi, and a hotel buffet to set you up for another day’s sightseeing.

Where to stay

Boasting an unbeatably central location, and composed of compellingly diverse neighbourhoods, Minato is a great choice for anyone wanting to make the most of their Tokyo visit. Roppongi is the city’s buzziest, most cosmopolitan nightlife destination, awash with raucous expat pubs, seductive cocktail lounges, and legendary superclubs that play host to top international DJs. Dining out options are similarly varied and exciting. You can experience culinary heaven in masterly Michelin restaurants, sampling some of the world’s finest sushi in chic, minimalist surroundings. Or if you prefer something a little more laid back, head to a cosy izakaya bar to feast on irresistible snacks like crispy tempura prawns and succulent yakitori chicken skewers.

How to get to Tokyo Tower

Tokyo boasts 2 major international transport hubs in Haneda Airport and Narita International Airport. From Narita, you can reach the Tokyo Tower by train in around 80 minutes – simply jump on the Narita Skyaccess line to Daimon station. Alternatively, a taxi should take between 60 and 85 minutes depending on traffic. From Haneda, you can take either the Keikyu-Kuko line to Daimon station, or the Tokyo Monorail to Hamamatsucho station. Either option will take just 20 minutes or so, but you’ll be faced with a 15 minute walk to the Tokyo Tower on the other side. A taxi all the way from the airport should take between 20 and 35 minutes.
