Disneyland Tokyo Hotels

The utterly magical Tokyo Disneyland was the first Disney park to be built outside North America, and those in the know rate it as one of the best on the planet. Since it first opened its gates in 1983, the original park has evolved into an expansive resort, replete with beautifully themed hotels, irresistible family-friendly restaurants, and elegant shopping malls. Tokyo Disneyland is located in the gloriously unspoilt Chiba Prefecture, which offers a refreshing change of pace from the frenzy of the big city, with its lush rice paddies, unspoilt coastline, and tranquil national parks.

Things to see

Tokyo Disneyland is modelled closely on the Magic Kingdom parks in California and Florida. But many say it improves on the originals, thanks to the people of Tokyo’s flair for design and organisation, as well as their wonderfully warm hospitality. If you want to make the most of your visit, arrive early and head straight for the big hitters - the sci-fi themed Space Mountain rollercoaster, the wet and wild Splash Mountain log flume, and the Big Thunder Mountain runaway mine train ride.

Other highlights include the delightfully spooky Haunted Mansion, the heart-warming audio-animatronic attraction It’s a Small World, and Star Tours – The Adventure Continues, a thrilling 3D motion simulator set in the enthralling Star Wars universe. The park also boasts some distinctly Japanese touches, such as a restaurant themed around the work of pioneering artist Hokusai.

Hotels in Disneyland Tokyo

There’s a diverse array of hotels near Disneyland Tokyo, including several within the resort itself. These include palatial 4-star hotels like Tokyo Disneyland Hotel, offering decadent facilities, such as heated indoor pools, gourmet restaurants serving cuisine from every corner of the globe, traditional Japanese hot spring baths, and commanding views of Tokyo Bay. If your budget won’t quite stretch to that, there are also plenty of mid-range Disneyland Tokyo hotels nearby such as Hotel Dream Gate Maihama, where you can enjoy handy amenities like free WiFi, fully equipped health clubs, supervised childcare, and a lavish hotel buffet to set you up for the day’s adventures.

Where to stay

You’ll find everything you need for a thrill-packed family getaway within the immediate vicinity of the Tokyo Disney Resort. Located near the park gates, Ikspiari is a state-of-the-art, one-stop destination for shopping, eating, drinking, and evening entertainment. It’s packed with chic boutiques, and kid-friendly restaurants serving irresistible cuisine from every corner of the globe. If you have fussy eaters in your group, or fancy a change from Japanese fare, you can feast on tried and tested western favourites like juicy hamburgers and piping-hot deep pan pizza, with creamy home-made Italian gelato for desert. If you need a night off from thrill-seeking, you can kick back and enjoy a blockbuster movie in the gleaming multiplex cinema.

How to get to Disneyland Tokyo

If you’re travelling from overseas, you’ll most likely arrive in Tokyo via either Narita International Airport or Haneda Airport. Narita is around 60 kilometres from Tokyo Disneyland. The cheapest and most straightforward option is to take an Airport Limousine Bus, which should take around an hour. You can also travel there by train in around 80 minutes - take the Narita Skyaccess line to Higashi-Matsudo station, then the Musashino line to Maihama station. From Haneda, the Limousine Bus or a taxi are your best options – either should get you to Tokyo Disneyland in around 30 minutes.
