Great for what it is, a traditional ryokan. Most Westerners may not like the shared restroom and showers, however.

I like how I Had to learn Japanese culture of putting on slippers before entering the facility and my experience of just being in a traditional Ryokin was worth my experience being in Japan

I came to this little Ryokan with high hope and ended up very disappointed therefore left 2days ahead of check out date .
Firstly. This is a very old house fallen into disrepair. You can hear anyone doing anything in it. Oh. Btw, there are six rooms in this property and all in the same floor. It is a shady, dilapidated, small wooden Japanese house .
Given that there are only two people serving in this property. That’s The 70s owner and his wife. So you know what to expect, folks. They are the rudest Japanese I’ve ever met in my whole life. After I reported the noise and the bed bug issues that I had fromstaying, the owner appeared to be very aggressively defensive. He wouldn’t had listened to my words but simply pissed me off. Huh? I paid for the room and you showed me no hospitality but hostility?
Last but not least. The hygiene conditions are seriously slacking . You have to share the unisex bathtub with ALL GUESTS. With the water reused. This might be acceptable for Japanese family, but definitely not for any customer. IT’S GROSS AND TRANSMISSIBLE.
Not to mention they use the kettle was made in 2005, hairdryer from last century, etc,.
I believe they seriously need some measurements to keep the mosquitoes, even bed bugs away from the property.
As some other reviewers advised, the position is odd and isolated. It is located in a residential neighborhood, with no much things to do nearby.
I am writing this review with honesty.
Ambience of the hotel, cleanliness of the room, great facilities nearby

Charming and romantic Japanese-style Onsen
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely Onsen in Kyoto. This Onsen is a traditional Japanese-style residence, complete with a picturesque garden, a hot soaking bath and the like. If you have not stayed at an Onsen, be aware that it is different than your traditional Western-style hotel. First off, you are required to take off your shoes upon entry (the entry itself is lovely) and wear slippers while inside. There are only a handful of rooms, and bathrooms and showers are shared among the occupants. You must schedule your shower/bath with the front desk attendant as well. If you get the Japanese-style room, there are no beds, as sleeping is done with a mat on the floor although they do have some rooms with Western-style beds too. The couple that runs the Onsen are very friendly and accommodating, speak English and will gladly help you get acquainted with the traditions of the Onsen as well as recommend places to eat and drink. If you are looking for an immersion into traditional accommodations and are open and respectful towards new experiences, I highly recommend staying here.

2/10 Poor
