About this villa

'Villa Playa Cabuya' is a true tropical paradise near the quiet fishing village of Cabuya. This spacious Mediterranean style home with artistic touch is located 40 meters of your small 'private' sandy beach with no direct neighbors. What make this place unique is the perfect mix of high quality ingredients. We believe than being alone on a quality beach (good and easy swim), bordering a wildlife* full garden, in a well build house equipped in a area full of activities is something rare. With the house we try to provide the best welcome service and numerous options*. Last but not least, there are few quality restaurants in the area.

* see below

Visit the vibrant beach town of Montezuma with it's nightlife, bars and restaurants only 7 km from here or ride to the endless beaches of Mal Pais and Santa Teresa, famous for their world class Surf and sunset.

Things to do around Cabuya: Being the gateway to the wonderful Cabo Blanco Reserve, Cabuya offers a wealth of natural sites to discover. It's great for hiking, beach combing and bird watching. The Rio Lajas with its natural swimming holes and Jacuzzis is ideal on the hot days and for a refreshing rinse-off after sunbathing. Cabuya Island with its cemetery is another place not to be missed especially if you are looking for a good snorkel spot.

There are a couple of real good restaurants in Cabuya, best choice of them is the bakery or 'Panaderia' on the road towards the park.

Getting around: There's a road from the intersection of Cabuya that leads you directly to Mal Pais and Santa Teresa with its beautiful never ending beaches and breathtaking sunsets. The road is usually good in the dry season but can become a problem after heavy rains as there's at least one river to cross. Best to go by 4x4 vehicle or quad.

Montezuma town: Montezuma lies just 7km from the house. The road passes at the surfer's beach Playa 'Los Cedros' and the beautiful Playa 'Las Manchas'. Montezuma offers a wide range of national and international restaurants, souvenir shops, bars and tour offices where you can choose between many attractive activities such as canopy, horse back riding, boat trips and more.

There's a farmers market at 10am every saturday in the park.

    Secluded Getaway

Cabuya Playa was a great getaway for us. The house is nice, no A/C though. There was a relatively new washing machine and clothesline for us to use which was very helpful. The road to Cabuya from Montezuma (7 km) was pretty rough. We had not expected that. Plus we missed the sign that said “Cabuya” and got lost for awhile. GPS did not help! Come fully prepared to hunker down during your stay as there is not much to do in the area. There is however a place close by where you can swim in the river, which was very pleasant and a lot of locals go.. The beach in front of the house is quite private but not very good for swimming. The hammocks were a sweet bonus!

    Remote paradise

The house and location on the beach were ideal for a get away vacation. If I were going to design a beach house, this would be it. Outdoor living to the max. The roads are quite crude in this area and in the rainy season I imagine that the road to Santa Teresa is impassable. But if you are rough and ready, then you won’t be disappointed. Really good eateries and grocery store within one mile of the house.

End of Dry Season but still great

Loved the layout of the Villa. Fitted perfectly into the terrain. The huge veranda facing the garden and ocean allowed several of us to spread out and relax plus space for outdoor dining if we didn't want to go to a restaurant. A profusion of (safe) wild life. Capuchin monkeys in the trees in the garden Howlers in the vicinity twice a day (although only saw them in the farmer's fields across the road. Armadillos and anteaters. Some kind of flycatcher spent most of the two weeks of our stay stripping ribbons of bark from local trees and building an intricate nest very close to the veranda. Nature in action. The back of the villa faces the Ocean and the eastern horizon so it became almost a ritual to get up before dawn to watch the sun rise. Good facilities locally in Cabuya (pescadore / fisherman) just 300 metres along the road - great selection. Very welcoming bar/restaurant with pool just beyond that. Great panaderia/bakery in the village - opens 7:00am every day except Tuesday - great baguettes hot from the oven for 1,000 colones. Adequate supermercado (David's) just past the bakery. And then of course you have the different business of Montezuma or Santa Theresa. We've visited Costa Rica many times - this was one of our best trips.

    A rare beachfront property

The property alone is reason to stay. Its beachfront breezes blow while the surf brings in the healing sea spray. Additionally, the owner and manager are kind and lovely to work with. There’s a village nearby where the local residents are warm and welcoming. Rent this house, just not when we want to!

    Absolutely Amazing!!!!!

Playa Cabuya was an un-describable experience. Our children (10 and 13) were amazed with the wildlife, activities, and local ambiance we experienced. Check in was delayed on our part due to travel delays, however Elizabeth was gracious enough to adjust her schedule to accommodate our late arrival. The locals (Ticos) were so receptive, kind, and willing to assist us during our stay with graciousness whenever needed. The villa was awesome, quaint, secluded, and direct access to the beautiful beach. Amazing sport fishing, ATV expeditions, and zip lining were a part of our trip. The villa was wonderful, exactly as advertised, and inviting. It, by far was one of the most relaxing trips I've ever taken. We weren't there more than 48 hours before my wife asked me "When can we come back?" The water was amazingly warm and inviting during high tide for swimming, and at low tide it gave you the opportunity to explore the "real" Cabuya coastline by venturing out into the rocks to see tidal pools with fish and other sea life. In the late evening and early morning the faint and subtle sound of howler monkeys deep in the woods soothed your soul. The restaurants nearby were phenomenal and the ability to cook our own food at-will made the trip. I would recommend that if you rent a vehicle that it be a 4WD OR rent ATV's, because it will allow you more access to the wonderful experiences you have available to you in this quaint little fishing village. If you are looking for a relaxing, safe, and laid back experience...this is the place! We WILL be back!!! Wonderful experience!!!!!!!!!

Tranquil and beautiful home on the beach

The home is lovely. The basic amenities such as towels, sheets, and kitchen accoutrements are provided. Sounds of waves and jungle life (and sightings) are plentiful. The village square with groceries, microbrewery, and bakery is a 15 walk or shot drive away.

Amazing sunrise views of the ocean.

There is nothing like waking up to jthe sun rise over your very own piece of beach from the back deck with a fresh hot cup of coffee. This place was rustic but well thought out, with everything one could need to relax. Elisabeth the property manager was amazing. I highly recommend this property Pura Vida !!!
