Ghent is a great place to visit if you like medieval architecture and want a city not overrun by tourists - at least not in winter. The city center, the cathedral and its artwork, the castle, the boat cruise, great cuisine - all make a great visit.

Our friend told us that we had to visit Ghent and that he preferred it to all other cities in Belgium (and most of Europe) and he was right! It has the art, architecture, cuisine, and culture of more famous cities, but without the crowds.

The audio guide tour of The Castle of the Counts was entertaining and the augmented reality tour of the Mystic Lamb painting at St Bavo's church was informative and unique. Best value was the City Pass card from the tourist office.

Ghent is a stunning smaller city, maybe overlooked because of the bigger more popular Bruges close by. I would recommend Ghent to anyone wanting to get a taste of the Belgian culture and hospitality.

It's a beautiful city full of interesting people. We visited during the Festivities and whilst it was busy (there are stages, music and activities everywhere) the city never felt threatening, unsafe or dirty. Gorgeous buildings!

"Great check-in experience, friendly and helpful staff, clean room, great restaurant and rooftop. The only issue we had was being charged extra 47 euros when we were told they were not busy and could checkout at 2pm at no charge.
Highly recommend otherwise. "
