Village Kiramachi
If you’re looking for a traditional ryokan experience in Kyoto, I highly recommend Village Kiramachi. It’s 5-10 minute walking distance from Shijo Station and a 10-15 minute taxi ride from Kyoto Station. It’s centrally located and walking distance to lots of restaurants, shopping, and attractions like Nishiki Market. Village Kiramachi is on a small street off of Shijo-dori and is composed of either 8 or 9 two-story units. The main gain closes around 10 pm, but they give you a key if you need to get in after then. We stayed in the Tsuki accommodations. You must remove your shoes before entering and a mat is provided to store your luggage on. The first floor has a seating area with cushions and table, closet and some hangers, small fridge, kettle, water/tea/coffee, and a bathroom. Up the narrow flight of stairs is the sleeping area with futons and another bathroom. I appreciated that the sleeping area can be separated with sliding doors, especially if someone in your party snores. A complimentary, traditional breakfast was provided for one morning, which was delicious. The main reason why I enjoyed my stay was the excellent service. Everybody who works here is super nice and friendly. They even went above and beyond to personally help transport us and our luggage to Kyoto Station when we needed to catch the shinkansen back to Tokyo. If you’re looking for the traditional Japanese experience and great service, book your stay here!

Best place in Kyoto!!!
Out of all the places I stayed at in Japan this was my favorite. Everything was exceptional. The staff was extremely friendly, the rooms were clean and beautiful, and the location was great. The only thing that may need some improvement would be the the AC in the bedroom. It would turn off on us at night and it would get hot in the room. If I ever come back to Japan this is where I will stay.

I took the bullet train from Tokyo, then got a ticket for the subway - it was a few short stops and then a 10 minute walk. So easy. I left my luggage there and went exploring as check in was later. SO easy. When I checked out, I did the same, left luggage and then went to pick it up before heading to the train. All easy. VILLAGE KIRAMACHI - staff is delightful & so sweet. - 10 minute quick walk to the market and gion area, so if you want a guest house that is in the middle of it - it's not but close - The house is a traditional wood house and is beautiful, on a sweet lane full of old tradition wood homes - My room was 2 floors with an outdoor deep wood tub, loved taking hot baths in a serene small private outdoor garden - breakfast was a traditional japanese one in a bento box - i had requested coffee and they went to a coffee shop to bring me what i wanted which was such a nice thing to do. so appreciated. - Tada is the owner, she is lovely. Her staff especially FENG is wonderful and always so sweet - beds are futons on the floor, very comfortable but it's a futon on the floor - so, keep that in mind - the room is so modern, all the wonderful modern needs (no TV) buttons to press and the heat is wonderful. but in a traditional Japanese setting. Loved it. - sheets are towels were so cozy and perfect - across the street is a supermarket and a convenience store and a coffee place so easy if you need snack - the toiletries and amenities provided are fabulous.
