Queenstown City Centre
Queenstown City Centre buzzes with adventure tourism booking offices, bars, and restaurants. The lakefront promenade along Lake Wakatipu offers stunning mountain views and peaceful walking paths. Adrenaline junkies book everything from bungee jumping to jet boating, while others enjoy the Queenstown Gardens or take the Skyline Gondola up to Bob's Peak for panoramic alpine vistas. The compact city centre is easily walkable with most attractions just minutes apart. From backpacker cafes to fine dining spots serving local lamb and seafood, the food scene caters to all budgets. Hotels range from luxury lodges to hostels, with most offering those picture-perfect mountain or lake views everyone comes for.

Fernhill
Perched on the hillside above Queenstown, Fernhill offers travellers a peaceful retreat with breathtaking views of Lake Wakatipu and surrounding mountains. Winding roads lead to modern holiday homes nestled among native bush, where floor-to-ceiling windows frame postcard-perfect panoramas. Walking trails start right from your doorstep, connecting you to the popular Ben Lomond Track for more adventurous hikes. You'll need to venture into city centre Queenstown for dining and shopping, just a short drive down the hill. Most accommodation feature upscale holiday rentals with gourmet kitchens and premium amenities like private hot tubs. The steep terrain means having a car is your best bet for getting around.

Frankton
Frankton blends lakeside charm with airport-adjacent convenience for travellers coming to Queenstown. Biking trails hug the shoreline of Lake Wakatipu, where you can dip your toes at Frankton Beach or snap jaw-dropping mountain photos. Remarkables Park Town Centre offers retail therapy when you need a break from all that gorgeous scenery. The area serves up family-friendly dining without the city centre prices. Motels and budget hotels near the airport make great home bases for exploring the region. With Queenstown Airport and a major bus interchange right here, you're perfectly positioned to zip around the South Island.

Sunshine Bay
Sunshine Bay serves up stunning views of Lake Wakatipu with the dramatic Remarkables mountain range as your backdrop. This peaceful area offers a sweet escape from Queenstown's buzz while keeping you close enough for convenience. The lakefront walking path delivers postcard-worthy scenes at every turn, and the small beach area welcomes swimmers brave enough to dip into the crystal-clear alpine waters. Most visitors stay in holiday rentals with jaw-dropping views and self-catering kitchens. You'll need wheels to reach Queenstown's restaurants and shops just 10-15 minutes away. The neighborhood's charm lies in its quiet residential vibe and natural beauty rather than tourist attractions or nightlife.

Goldfield Heights
Goldfield Heights offers a serene escape with spectacular views of Lake Wakatipu and surrounding mountains. The residential area connects to the popular Queenstown Hill Time Walk, where native beech forests and alpine trails reward hikers with panoramic vistas. This upscale retreat feels worlds away from city centre bustle yet sits just a 15-minute stroll from Queenstown's attractions. Luxury holiday rentals with floor-to-ceiling windows dominate the accommodation scene here. While you won't find restaurants or shops within the area, city centre Queenstown's dining and retail options are easily accessible by car or rideshare. The steep terrain means a car is handy but not essential for travellers who enjoy scenic walks.

Queenstown and related destinations
Adrenaline junkies find their spiritual home in this lakeside playground where bungee jumping was practically invented. The Skyline Gondola delivers you to panoramic views of Lake Wakatipu and the jagged Remarkables mountain range. Jet boats slice through impossibly narrow canyons while skiers carve nearby slopes in winter. The compact town centre buzzes with cafes and outdoor outfitters surrounding Queenstown Mall. For quieter moments, wander through Queenstown Gardens or spot native birds at the Kiwi and Birdlife Park. The casino offers entertainment without the natural thrills, though locals might suggest you're better off sipping pinot noir at a local winery. Come summer, the beach becomes a perfect launchpad for lake adventures beneath Ben Lomond's watchful peak.

Rendezvous Heritage Hotel Queenstown
"very spacious room -but its little older property so no upgrades with phone USB outlets. great buffet breakfast options. lovely view from front of building, but hotel is on a hill so walking up to the hotel could be an issue for some."
Holiday Inn Queenstown Remarkables Park by IHG
"Great location easy eating and parking"
voco Queenstown by IHG
"Great location for all activities."
Kamana Lakehouse
"Great stay! The perfect place to relax. Only downside was the distance to town and having to get a taxi for dinner in town. The view from the Nest restaurant made up for it tho!"
Crowne Plaza Hotel Queenstown by IHG
"First, the staff is amazing - every person we came across in our 7 day stay was friendly, helpful and downright cheerful. The front desk staff at checkin and out were great. We made a lot of friends at ThreeSixty, the restaurant and bar where everyone was so helpful with suggestions and ideas for what we could do - Thanks Martin, Izzy, Josefina, Hannah, and our friends from Mexico - you guys are the best! Second, the location is absolutely unbeatable. There are 30 restaurants within a 5 minute walk, as are all the lakefront amenities, great shopping, great everything. The Gondola was a 10 minute walk... it really couldn't be more convenient if you plan to do any exploring. The room was fine, the bed was comfortable and waking up the the lakeviews was spectacular. Even got to use the small gym a couple of times. This was our first trip to NZ and Queenstown, but we will definitely be back."
Wyndham Garden Remarkables Park Queenstown
"Great location , parking and food"
Garden Court Suites And Apartments
"Location is good. Clean room, free parking."
LyLo Queenstown
"Great location, well suited for the younger crowd"
Mi-pad Queenstown
"Clean and tidy hotel with proximity to the town and restaurants. Modern and new facilities. I should correct my previous comments, the hotel does provide connection from mobile phone to TV by GoogleCast providing necessary access to your own YouTube and streaming (the hotel provides only regular local TV channels)."

For those seeking great value for money, a stay of at least 3 to 4 days is ideal to explore the region's rich history, cultural heritage and landmarks. Visitors can enjoy a range of attractions including the serene lake, guided tours, ski experiences, breathtaking scenery, majestic mountains, adventurous trails, hiking paths, romantic settings, winery tours, and various recreational activities.
- Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: Hotels.com offers a variety of great hotel deals in Queenstown. By visiting the DealsOpens in a new window and Last-Minute Deals sections, you may discover discounted rates on hotels close to your travel date. For added convenience, you could receive alerts on flash sales and special promotions. Additionally, the Smart Shopping tool available via the app allows travellers to compare hotel prices and amenities, ensuring you're more likely to see the best offers. This approach may help you secure attractive deals for Queenstown hotels.
- Be flexible with dates: Prices may fluctuate depending on factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year. Therefore, being flexible with your travel dates could potentially help you find a more economical option for your stay in a Queenstown hotel. For those seeking something a bit different, boutique hotels often provide a more personalised experience and may offer better value. When you make a booking through Hotels.com, we will inform you whether the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If the price appears to be on the higher side, we can suggest alternative dates that may help you discover a more favourable rate.
- Consider your location: Hotels situated near the city centre generally tend to be more expensive; however, thanks to Queenstown's exceptional public transport links, you may discover a more affordable independent hotel located a bit further out that remains well connected. For those wishing to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often excellent value for money to be had. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
