6/10 Good

adequate for a one-night stay

Accommodation in the small "bothy"-type house is not up to standard, the bathroom requires refurbishing. Breakfast - although adequate in this form - was served in a paper bag left in front of the door. Everything was clean and tidy. The outside could be landscaped to make it more friendly. The food in the hotel was good and the staff very friendly and helpful.

What a great room! Arrived in time for dinner and the food was excellent. We weren't sure what the basket would be like for breakfast and it turned out to be amazing.

Shandwick Inn - NC500

This is a small inn - but the room was a good size and comfy. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the food was good. They left a lovely continental breakfast basket at your door in the morning.

Staff were friendly and helpful. When we explained we were having a very early start they provided a packed lunch as an alternative to the breakfast. This and the breakfast basket on the second morning were both excellent and a very nice touch.

I liked there was a small play area for my daughter. The hotel room looked like it had been refurbished recently. From the outside you would never know the inside looks very nice. I like the hotel has its own seperate entrance from the dining area. Would stay again.

Friendly staff, easy to check in and out. Room nothing special but decent

We stayed in the cottage which stands separate to the main building and it was pleasant. We had our evening meal in the main building and there was a good selection of foods at typical prices if comparing to pub food in a town. Breakfast is Continental and guests expecting a full cooked breakfast need to be aware of this.

Early evening in room 4. muffed voices and laughter from the restaurant below the room. this was not an issue for me. the food is plentiful and wholesome

Quaint

When we arrived we had a fright because we thought the place had closed down because everything was closed, but at 4pm it all came to life. Dinner at the restaurant was excellent and the breakfast, left in a basket at 7am outside the front door, was ample.

Adorable room with a view of trees. Bathroom had a skylight. Breakfast was left by our room door early morning. We ate it outside at the picnic tables in the sun.

Stayed in a small cottage on site. Terrible smell in room. Extractor fan and vanity light not working. Bed frame too small for 6ft husband. Good great tho!

A Bit Tired, but Met My Needs

My stay was, in a word, adequate. The staff were friendly and efficient. The restaurant/pub was very good. The bed was reasonably comfy. So, my basic needs were met. However, the room and restaurant were both a bit tired, with the vinyl peeling off some of the seats in the restaurant and the room feeling a bit on the damp side with carpeting that was not particularly nice. So if you are looking for basic accommodation and don't mind the aesthetics, then this is a good choice.

It was ok, cracked sink, cracked tiles on the bathroom floor, strong smell of cleaning chemicals but also means it had been well cleaned which is a positive. Food was good but we have been overcharged on our food bill, an extra main course was added. We paid then was offered a copy of the bill which I didn’t check until we had left - silly me. Make sure you get the bill and check it before you pay!! I shall email the property to see if I can get it resolved.

Better options for this money around

We arrived after 1600 (the suggested check-in) time and were told our room (a cottage annex) wasn't ready, the clean laundry hadn't arrived. We asked to check-in anyway. The room was old, smelt bad and was in a state of disrepair. The TV was tablet size and the WiFi didn't work in our 'annex'. Our breakfast was a hamper left at our door at 0700, no problems here but only one chair in the room to eat at the desk. The other person should stand or sit on the bed to eat? Upon check-out the main building was locked, there was nobody around, we left the key at the door and left. A strange "hotel" experience, not worth the money!
