A super hotel in the heart of the old town. The staff are friendly and the rooms are very comfortable. It has a great heritage vibe with a lush pool area. The food at the restaurant is highly recommended. We first found Aksara by stopping in for lunch in Feb 2023 and I was delighted to get a chance to stay there on this visit.

Absolutely enjoyed my stay at Por Thapae Gate. Tucked away in a quiet street but yet just a stone's throw away from most tourist attractions. Free refreshments & snacks 24/7 is a godsend.
Shout-out to lovely Ben for being so helpful. She sorted out my various day-tour bookings and gave me the low-down on local transport which translated to considerable savings for me. Thank you again for making my maiden visit to chiangmai wonderfully unforgettable!

Staff were all very helpful, gave recommendations to lots of popular local food within walking distance. Breakfast was well thought out, not your typical buffet spread, but a nice curation of cold and warm dishes, and complimentary fruits and drinks throughout the day! Love that there’s a cute resident cat too. Highly recommend this hotel! :)

I love the concept with big fridges containing bottled water in every floor. The breakfast is splendid (a mixture of thai and western) and the boss and staff are very warm and friendly. There is a new female staff from Spain who chats with the hotel guests during breakfast, to know us better and make sure our stay is alright; keep up the good job! Moreover, all staff are always standby to ready to help. It is about 1 to 2 minutes walk to Sunday walking street and this is good enough for my...

Loved the hotel location, such delightful, accommodating, smiling, friendly, patient, flexible extended services. Breakfast selection was wholesome and good. It’s not far from anywhere within the wall. The hotel is perfect boutique size, beautifully decorated, and the hanging money plants/water feature in the central area adds to the tranquility.
My only criticism would be the poor lighting in the bathroom and hair conditioner is not part of the bathroom amenity. But they obliged when...

The property is excellent and in the central area, close to everything. All the staff members are very helpful and helped us with various recommendations. Only thing that the place needs to improve is housekeeping, sometimes they forget to palce towels, sometimes accessories, tea bags etc. Its like everyday something is missed.

Staff services were amazingly good and helpful. You need to place a deposit 1000baht so keep aside that cash. Went for elephant tour and kitchen was able to prepare breakfast to-go at 7am, very happy with the eggs and toast. Housekeeping was good and honest! I threw away a bag (left it beside the rubbish bin) and didn't expect housekeeping staff to check the bag compartments, she found some cash in there and returned to me immediately whilst I was at reception/check out. Really grateful for that...

4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Chiang Mai
Book for the cheapest times: The most affordable time to visit Chiang Mai is during May, June, and September, when hotel prices tend to be lower. For travellers on a budget, a stay of at least 3 to 4 days is recommended to fully explore the city's key landmarks, cultural sites, and historical attractions. During this time, visitors can immerse themselves in the rich culture by visiting temples, enjoying local festivals, and experiencing traditional dining and shopping. The city also offers delightful cafés and beautiful floral displays, making it a budget-friendly destination that provides great value for money.
Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: To discover last-minute deals to Chiang Mai, begin by exploring the Dealsopens in new window or Last-Minute Deals section on Hotels.com, where you may find discounted rates as your travel date approaches. Consider enabling email alerts or push notifications from Hotels.com to stay updated on flash sales and special last-minute promotions, helping you seize opportunities to save. Additionally, you can utilise Smart Shopping via the app, a comparison tool that allows you to evaluate hotel prices and amenities, ensuring you're informed if rooms become available or prices drop for your preferred hotels.
Be flexible with dates: Prices may fluctuate depending on factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year, so having some flexibility with your travel dates could potentially help you find a more economical option for your stay in a hotel in Chiang Mai. For those seeking distinctive accommodations, boutique hotels can provide a more personalised experience and, at times, greater value. When you book through Hotels.com, we will inform you whether the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If the price tends to be on the higher side, we may suggest alternative dates that could help you secure a better deal.
Consider your location: Hotels situated near the city centre usually tend to be more expensive, but with Chiang Mai's superb public transport connections, you may discover a more affordable independent hotel a bit further out that remains well-connected. For those eager to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often excellent value for money to be found. Opting for these alternative locations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
