Location is wonderfull. The division of managerial and operational attention between Joops and Ambassador( too much in favour of Ambassador)
+ Great kitchen corner. + Large studio + Very hot water - creaky bathroom door - flashing light in the bathroom -A lot of non-working programs on TV - The safe- non-working - Loud surroundings up to 4 am
The location is great, the place overall is as advertised: pretty basic but clean and beds are comfortable. The only big issue to me was that showers didn't have any curtains or class walls - so whenever you shower the water is all over the place no matter how careful you are. And that's not only inconvenient as the floors are wet often but also simply dangerous as it's easy to slip and fall. The hotel is not ideal for car travellers. We came with a car and we knew that it'll be a little bit of a problem to park it there, but it turned out that you can't even come to the door to unload stuff (due to permanent street barriers). One needs to park the car in a nearby underground parking and bring over their luggage. In addition the check-in is in their another hotel around the corner - Ambassador hotel. The hotels and parking are close and not really a problem, but there was not enough communication about this at their website and in the instructions we've got upon booking. They need to send clear instructions where to park and how to check-in. Otherwise it might take long time like it took to us (probably 45 mins or even an hour). That's not a big issue but still worth mentioning.
I didn't like how rude and unhelpful the receptionist staff were- I arrived 10 mins before check in and was told I was too early and would have to wait to check in. Versus a friendly conversation saying my room was almost ready and they would make sure I could check in right on time...
The property location is excellent however overpriced. Needed a few homely touches. TV remote missing. Draught under the door and smelled of smoke in the hl.
My bedroom was much more than I expected. It had three beds and a two seater sofa and one chair to match. The room was very clean. Beds were very comfortable. The joops is very central to all amenities and I could walk anywhere.
Nice, clean, quiet neighbourhood. Close to many amenities.
We had stayed here before and had a great trip. The front desk people at the ambassador City center were not friendly. Our room smelled of old vomit and fans were going to try and air it out. The internet never worked. Part of the reason we chose this place because it offered high speed internet. When we tried to use the phone to cal the front desk, the phone was broken. We walked to the ambassador to report the internet problem only to be told that they would call to have it fixed. Still no fix by the next morning.we asked housekeeping about it and they claim it never works. I fee that we were lied to about the amenities. We were not asking for much, I just wish they could have been honest. It wasn’t an expensive hostel room, but the service was not what I had expected. We were a family of four traveling with kids and it sure was not pleasant smelling and not helpful to navigate the city without internet.
The location was great but the price that we paid for the two night we stayed was way to high. The room was dirty, the shower (if you can call it a shower) was a nightmare. We stayed at the adjacent building they have and it has not security so there were drunks kicking the doors and screaming and fighting that went on and on for more than an hour. At the beginning it was really scary and then it was annoying. I wouldn't recommend it at all.
We stayed in the Joops Hotel which seemed like a converted apartment building that was located around the corner from the main hotel. The staff was very unwelcoming and not able to help with any questions posed. We felt like second class citizens to the people staying in the main hotel. When we checked in, there was no information given about the hotel's services like breakfast or cleaning services. No information was given about the surrounding location either. They handed the key over and said that we could take the elevator up to our floor, which was false. We had to climb up 2 floors up 2 small spiral staircases. It was difficult to get to our room due to the tight hallways and odd doors. The room itself was a converted apartment with stained carpets and had a kitchen with nothing in it. The balcony was shared with the other room on the floor, so there was no privacy. My family couldn't sleep with the windows open because our neighbors could come waltzing through our room. We stayed for two nights, and the second day the cleaning lady did not give us the proper amount of towels for all 5 of us. The surrounding area was beautiful with great restaurants, but that was NOT due to this hotel. I will be returning to Haarlem but NOT to this hotel chain.
