The Atlanta Film Festival is an annual non-profit event designed to showcase a wide variety of independent films with a focus on diversity and the American Southwest. Many of the films here are created by women, Latin Americans, black creators, and LGBTQ creators.

Given the variety of genres and experiences shown in the films here, just about everyone will be able to find something they connect with. Even kids can find fun here, though not all films shown are appropriate for all audiences. The entire festival lasts around 10 days each year.

Atlanta Film Festival Highlights

At the Atlanta Film Festival, you'll find a wide variety of programming to enjoy in addition to the films themselves. The films are still the stars, however, with typically between 150 and 250 shown each year. They come from all over the world, with submissions from around 50 countries submitted for consideration.

This festival also hosts a screenplay competition in which screenwriters compete to attend a writer's retreat where professionals will help them workshop their scripts and prepare for the next steps. The winning scripts will also be presented at the festival with a staged table read.

Good to Know When Visiting the Atlanta Film Festival

Before you go to the Atlanta Film Festival, there are some factors to keep in mind. The venues can change from year to year, though it tends to mostly take place in the Plaza Theatre within the Poncey-Highland area. 7 Stages Theatre is a common secondary venue, but it's located nearby.

When buying tickets to this event, you'll find a plethora of different options available. Consider what kind of experience you're looking for before finalising your purchase. A full festival badge, a film access pass, and a conference access pass all offer different experiences.
