Find out more about Upper East Side

Home to some of the world’s finest museums and myriad exclusive fashion houses, the Upper East Side simply oozes sophistication. Many of Manhattan’s elite flock to its tree-lined streets and impressive townhouses, and some of the United States’ most famous families have called the Upper East Side home—the Rockefellers, the Roosevelts, and the Kennedys, to name a few. If magnificent art, designer shopping, and first-rate restaurants are your thing, the Upper East Side is the place for you!

Hotels on the Upper East Side

Hotels on the Upper East Side offer the last word in style. A classic example is The Pierre, a 44-story neo-Renaissance hotel that’s been a high-society favorite since it first opened its doors in 1930. Boasting a prime location on Fifth Avenue, this luxury Upper East Side hotel is fit for a star, and even played host to Coco Chanel at one point! Tucked away on a quiet street, the Hotel Plaza Athenee is another 5-star hotel on the Upper East Side that guarantees guests a spectacular stay. For glitz and glamor without the hefty price tag, you’ll also find a variety of mid-range hotels on the Upper East Side, such as the Courtyard by Marriott.

Things to see on the Upper East Side

Intersected by Fifth and Madison, there’s no shortage of activities on the Upper East Side. Art lovers will want to make a beeline for “Museum Mile” to spend the day perusing the city’s impressive museums. Begin at the famous Guggenheim museum, which houses masterpieces by the likes of Van Gogh, Renoir, and Picasso. Featuring a 96-foot-high glass dome and a striking spiral rotunda, this spectacular building is as much a piece of art itself as the precious collections housed within. Next on the list is the Metropolitan Museum of Art, known affectionately to locals as “the Met.” With a plethora of departments to discover, from Arms and Armor to Modern and Contemporary Art, the United States’ largest art museum is home to a staggering two million works of art. Take a break in between museums and enjoy a leisurely stroll through leafy Central Park, an oasis of calm in the heart of Manhattan.

Good for shoppers

The Upper East Side is a haven for shopping aficionados. If you’re looking for the ultimate in designer fashion and have plenty of cash to splash, look no further than Madison Avenue, which traverses this cosmopolitan neighborhood. With fashion powerhouses like Alexander McQueen, Jimmy Choo, and Dolce & Gabbana on every corner, this avenue is a shopaholic’s paradise. For everything under one roof, head straight for Barneys New York, the famous luxury department store. Bloomingdale’s on 3rd Avenue is also a popular spot to while away an afternoon amidst a sea of top brands and labels.

How to get to the Upper East Side

The Upper East Side can be easily reached from any of New York’s 3 main airports.
