Great value; great location.
The location of The Jane is excellent, as is the value. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would return again. We had two good meals at the restaurant, and enjoyed an after dinner drink by the fire in the bar. Two small things could be improved. The smell of cleaning solution was a bit strong, and we could have used an extra blanket in our room, but neither of these really interfered with our enjoyment of our stay. The staff was friendly and courteous and made us feel welcome.

Good Customer Service, but there was a bed bug
I found one bed bug in the room where I was staying. I left and didn’t spend the night. Customer service cleaned my belongings and refunded me. Shower pressure could be improved in the communal restrooms. The hotel looks very nice and old-fashioned.

Just fine for a night or two
I stayed in the smallest room, the Standard Cabin I believe it's called, with my best friend for three nights in mid-December. The beds were plenty comfy, and we were provided with bath and hand towels, washcloths, slippers, and robes. You have to insert your key into a little hole in the wall when you come in the room in order to use the electricity, so nothing runs during the day while you're out. The central heating from the hotel made the room suffocatingly hot during the day, and it would take about 30 minutes to an hour each night just to cool the room down to a reasonable temperature with our in-room unit. While I was a little apprehensive about using a shared, mixed-gender bathroom that only had two showers for the entire floor, it was a perfectly fine experience. Very clean, and the showers and toilets were all completely private. I don't know if I would have stayed at The Jane for longer than three nights, but it was a great place to crash each night that we were in the city. A safe neighborhood and only a 10 minute walk from the subway.

A Vey Hot Cupboard
A great location. The West Village is a really nice area with plenty of small places to eat, and a few decent bars too. It's about a 10min walk to the nearest Subway station at 14th & 8th. The hotel itself has a shared bathroom on each floor, which I never really got used to. I'm not sure of the greeting etiquette whilst wearing bathrobes at the crack of dawn, so it seemed silence was the order of the day. The showers were great though. The water was hot enough to remove ones skin, and plenty of it too. The corridors themselves have a slight whiff of old stale cigarette smoke, probably a relic of the pre-smoking ban, with carpets vacuumed to within an inch of their lives by the look of them. Our room was slightly smaller than the 'sweat box' in which Steve McQueen found himself imprisoned in The Great Escape, which I didn't mind, but the under-shelf radiator kept at a constant 100 degrees, was something the very noisy air-con struggled to over-come. Take ear plugs to keep cool! It sounds like I'm moaning, but I'm not, it was a great place to stay, and I'd go back if I return to New York. For the price in Manhattan, I consider myself very lucky.
