Beginning Thursday night--usually with beverages and food--the festival will continue through Sunday, showing multiple movies from filmmakers around the world. In addition, the Movie Festival includes the Osprey Short Movie Awards, highlighting short movies from local filmmakers that go on to receive ratings from both judges and the audience.
Showings take place at one of three theaters--The Theater by the Lake, The Alhambra Movie theater and The Rheged Center. Each gorgeous theater is located near the waterfront in Keswick and hosts showings every few hours.

At the Penrith Winter Droving, join in with locals by donning a farmer's costume and a handmade mask to celebrate the thousands of years of Penrith history. Each year, thousands of visitors line the streets of Penrith in late October or early November to enjoy the descent of winter upon the Lake District. Stages and street corners are dotted with musicians and the streets transform into the busiest traders' market of the year, featuring Cumbria's best food, drink, arts and culture.

Ambleside Rushbearing

At the Ambleside Rushbearing Festival that takes place each year on the first Saturday in July, Ambleside citizens ranging from preschoolers to clergymembers gather rushes and other sweet grasses and carry them through town to place them in St. Mary's Church. This long-held traditional festival is accompanied by the Burneside Brass Band and followed by events such as a church service, sports and the famous Fell Race.
The Rushbearing ceremony dates to the days when churches had earthen floors, and the congregation regularly brought fresh rushes to cover the floors. Today, the ceremony is a community event that includes a small church service followed by a meal of gingerbread, sausage rolls, potato chips, biscuits, apples and beverages.
