We stayed at Dara Ayu for 3 nights in March 2017. When we booked, we were unaware that the hotel would be in such a remote location (no restaurants nearby), but we were still very happy with our experience overall. We had been staying in Canggu previously, so on our way to Dara Ayu we had our driver take us to the monkey forest in Ubud and the rice fields. On our first full day at the resort we spent the day lounging around the pool. It was beautiful being surrounded by jungle and rice fields. The next day we did a trek to Mount Batur early in the morning so we spent the afternoon by the pool again. And then the next day on our way south to Uluwatu we had our driver take us to the elephant safari and a waterfall. So we didn't do too many activities while we were actually staying at Dara Ayu, instead we did it on the way there and back.
The only place to eat is the hotel restaurant, which was decent. The prices were reasonable, but a bit high compared to the rest of Bali. The Wi-Fi was extremely unreliable which was a bit frustrating!
We stayed in the Dewi Sinta room located on the pool level, which was amazing. It had a king bed (which had heating capabilities), AC, a little porch area, an indoor area to hang clothing and keep your luggage, and the outdoor washroom (which was very unique)! The room itself was great, but there were a LOT of ants in the room. We sprayed the insect spray on them and unfortunately our room was not cleaned for the duration of our stay.
