Go beyond your typical stay in National Park Village
National Park Village is well known for its natural beauty and mountains, while attractions include Tongariro National Park and Marton Sash and Door Cycling Park. This welcoming city's skiing and restaurants are enjoyed by visitors, and sights include Fishers Track.
NPV has one shop/fuel station and two/three restaurants. It's close to the Tongariro Crossing but there's very little else if, like us, the weather upsets your plans. We returned 85km from Taupo later to do the hike, which has plenty of amenities.

Tiny village, single tiny supermarket/gas station opens at 7 so buy your sandwiches for hiking the night before.

The Alpine Crossing is a great hike. They do a very good job of reminding you to pay attention to your hiking conditions as whether you are tired or hot or cold and need to turn back. The views were amazing!

The kitchen is quite well appointed and has an excellent oven and stove. It's a little drive to anywhere but we had a rental car so that was no issue, only 15 mins to Tongariro visitors centre. "
