Midtown East - Grand Central Hotels

From the Art Deco grandeur of the Chrysler Building, to the Beaux-Arts beauty of Grand Central Terminal, Midtown East boasts some of New York’s most iconic landmarks. Whilst it’s a feast for sightseers, it’s home to some of the city’s best amenities too. Shop the glossy stores of fabulous 5th Avenue, dine on cheap eats or swanky fare in Midtown’s many restaurants, or get your fill of world-class art and culture along Museum Mile. Minutes from the Big Apple’s core, it doesn’t get much more New York than this.

Things to see

One of the city’s most famous sights, Grand Central Terminal covers 48 acres and boasts 44 platforms – more than any other train station in the world. Set behind a stately Beaux-Arts façade, its vast cavernous Main Concourse is its most recognisable feature, with its intricate astronomical ceiling and ever-bustling sea of commuters. Five minutes away on the subway, you’ll reach Times Square – fondly known as the ‘Crossroads of the World’. Clad in giant neon advertisements and flowing with pedestrians and traffic, it’s home to an array of giant flagship stores, restaurants, and glitzy Broadway theatres. A short cab ride away and you’ll find the most iconic structure of all – the Empire State Building. Piercing the city’s skyline at a height of 1,454 feet, the Art Deco tower is predominantly used for offices, but features indoor and outdoor viewing areas, as well as the ‘Dare to Dream’ exhibit – which tells the story of its history and construction.

Hotels in Midtown East - Grand Central

Situated moments from New York’s epicentre, there’s certainly no shortage of hotels in Midtown East – Grand Central. Here you’ll find everything from gleaming 5-star skyscrapers and trendsetting boutique establishments, to a who’s who of upscale chain name hotels. The majority feature swish bar lounges and on-site restaurants, with many of the larger hotels in Midtown East – Grand Central providing business centres and fitness facilities too. As a leader in the world of hospitality, many of New York’s rooms come to a high standard – plush bedding, free WiFi, and large flat-screen televisions are all to be expected.

Where to stay

A cluster of corporate skyscrapers, caffeine-fuelled Midtown East is where many New Yorkers clock in for work. That’s not to say it’s all work and no play however. Alongside a people-pleasing choice of restaurants and drinking holes, there’s some great shopping to be had. Fifth Avenue occupies the neighbourhood’s western border, and features an array of big brand and luxury label stores, whilst nearby Madison Avenue is encrusted with top-end boutiques too. Alongside its amenities, a hotel in Midtown East – Grand Central makes the perfect sightseeing base, with star attractions like Times Square, the Broadway Theatre District, and Central Park all just minutes away.

How to get to Midtown East - Grand Central

If you’re flying into New York, chances are you’ll be arriving at either LaGuardia Airport or John F. Kennedy International, both of which are situated in the borough of Queens. Whilst LaGuardia mostly handles domestic traffic, JFK is the gateway for the majority of New York’s overseas visitors. If you’re landing at the latter, the AirTrain service can hook you up to the city’s subway network, making hotel transfers a breeze. A trip to Midtown Manhattan takes around an hour, and Grand Central Terminal is an ideal stop (though you will have to change lines along the way). Taxis are a slightly faster alternative; though they will cost more.
