I spent two very pleasant weeks at The Tire Station. What particularly impressed me was the hotel reception staff – especially - Tessa, Milou, Lisa, and Dananai. It was their combination of friendliness, helpfulness, energy, professionalism, and effectiveness – among the best I have ever seen in decades of staying at hotels in many countries. Tessa and Dananai were invaluable in helping me with a medical emergency I experienced when I suffered a nasty fall in the street. Tessa called a local hospital and stayed on the phone on hold through 25 calls ahead of her until she could connect me to a medical professional. She then got a cab to take me to the hospital. She picked a perfect hospital. Milou and Lisa were exceptionally helpful with dining recommendations and reservations.
My room had a nice view of the Schinkel River. The bed in my room was very, very comfortable. The one thing I did not care for in the room was the chair. It was uncomfortable for relaxing and reading. It was more like a punishment for a misbehaving child.
The hotel is not in the most exciting area. However, it is only a 5-minute walk from two tram stations, which are part of the great Amsterdam public transportation system. I took at least two trams a day and as many as eight, plus the metro and the ferries. I could easily get anywhere I wanted. The hotel is also only a two-block walk from the wonderful Vondel Park.
I found a nice breakfast place at Toasty Lunchroom – about a 5-minute walk.
