Fun, good value - just wish the food was better

Beautiful very large resort, almost too large as some things were hard to find. Food was the real problem. Buffers were mostly just NOT good and several of the specialty restaurants were hit and miss. Overcooked was the biggest yet persistent problem everywhere. Lots of nice bars but who makes your drink mattered big time - very inconsistent. But custom made drinks were no problem either so with some effort is all works out. Hey, we had fun! And the price was just great. Rooms were very comfortable (after I got one with a working AC unit) but maintenance was fast for all problems. Everyone speaks Spanish so there were many language barriers to cross but with some patience it was all good. Overall good value. Family had a great time and would go to the DR again. This resort? Maybe not. We've had better luck elsewhere.

    Great family trip!

Took us about 30min to check in because it was right at 4pm. If you get there really hungry go directly to the snack bar by the beach or sport bar where both has it buffer system. Otherwise you can wait for buffet Torres which opens at 630pm. Staff is friendly and always wants to help. Expedia staff is going to try to catch you right away to book excursions. Bars are good and staff is very friendly. At the buffets, you can start eating but ordering a drink takes some times. They should have a better system for that. Try to reserve the restaurants few days ahead. Due Covid, half of the amnenties were closed. The spa is nice but also the saunas were closed due Covid. So not worth paying for the circuit. Beach is lovely but there is always someone coming to you trying to sell you something. If you really like something, negotiate because they can really overcharge. My room was great. A/c was a bit weak ok my room and at 6pm until 10pm we didn't have very hot water. We were on the 3rd floor. Probably is the peak shower time. Domingos and Mildre were wonderful serves. Romana was a great wedding cerimonial. The only thing that up sets us that they set up one kind of flowers and on the wedding day they said they couldn't get it. At last minute they show up with a bouquet that looked a bit dying but looked great on the pictures with the blue ocean behind us. We would definitely come back!

    Overall It Was OK

Overall, it was pretty good. Check in went smooth, but once we got to the room realized they gave us a room with one bed and my reservation was for two beds. So had to go back and change it. Resort also indicated $1500 on resort credits which no one mentioned at check in so I had to inquire. That turned out to be a coupon book with discounts or upgrades on things around the resort. One of the coupons was for souvenirs that we tried to use at the one gift shop and was told we could not use it. Not sure if there was a language gap but never figured out where we could use those coupons. Finally, the WiFi worked amazingly in the room but was spotty all over the resort. Due to COVID most menus required a QR code to view menu on your phone. Most restaurants, our phones wouldn’t connect to WiFi so it was difficult to see the menus.

Great time!!! Coffee Hack: Make it yourself

My family and I had a blast!! We were there for 6 days. The beach was nice (yes there was a bit of seaweed randomly... maybe two of the days), plenty of seats places to sit. The pools were nice, bars at each and they had people walking around grabbing drinks for people. I went with 5 people and it wasn't terrible finding a spot at any of the pools. Usually I had to get 3 chairs under a hut and grab a couple when people left. No biggie. Some things that could have been better, but didn't ruin our vacation: Coffee is tough to come by before 1030... they have a specific coffee place Piacere (doesn't open till 1040??) Bars have coffee (not till 1000) Even in the breakfast buffet it is hit or miss whether you will even get your coffee (you have to order coffee from a waiter, once I waited for 45 minutes and had to leave without it, the buffet service is subpar). Hack: They have a do it yourself in the room, I suggest that for hardcore morning coffee drinkers. The excursions are awesome (haggle), we did the parasailing and the catamaran to snorkle, but make sure you get them from the people in the resort. They do "hound" you to listen to some spiel .... we dodged it the whole time. But overall great time, worth it, I would do it again!!

    Terrible property

Staff need training. Areas hard to find. Restaurant impossible to get reservations. Drinks are really from the bottom of the chart. Food nothing special. Impossible to navégate the huge 4 hotel complex. You have to walk miles everywhere. No Transportetion available other than a silly train that run once in a while and never stop to pick you up. Overall a terrible experience that I will not recommend to anybody

    Nice hotel but…

I booked 3 Junior Suite for a family vacation. We got a welcome drink at the lobby while waiting to be checked in. One of the 3 rooms assigned to us had issues, the door wouldn't open with the card given to us. A bell boy went to the lobby twice to exchange it and it would not open. A concierge was able to open it with his Master key and we had to wait about 1 hour for them to send a technician to fix it. Meanwhile the phone and lock was not working either. I explained to them I needed a different room due to all the issues, they instead sent another concierge to try to fix the door with no success. After about 3 hours waiting and walking back and forth between the lobby and the room, the manager finally agreed to give us another room. It should not be that complicated to change rooms especially due to malfunction of the room assigned. The resort is all inclusive with unlimited beverages including a mini bar with beer and soft drinks, I stayed for 4 days and not even once the mini bar was replenished, I called customer service to request it and never happened. The food was good, we used the main pool during our stay and it was very nice. They have one also for kids. The hotel has direct access to the beach which it is very convenient. They also offer tours and water activities for a fee. The property has parking on site, they have several restaurants, I called everyday for reservations and no luck so we used the buffet style only. A nice hotel but it needs better service

You get what you pay for/Expectation management.

Dated property that should definitely NOT be rated 5 stars, as the gigantic sign at the entrance indicates... Upon check-in we were bombarded with "personal concierge" offers, that turned out to be a marketing spiel about the benefits of becoming a "valued member of their special travel club"... The Junior Suite that I booked was a basic hotel room, no separate sitting area, just one regular-sized hotel room on the first floor of a building in need of repairs. Our patio/front door area had a pergola type structure, but was not covered for either sun or rain, so it was practically unusable. One night it rained pretty bad and the water was beating up the door, water came in below... speaking of water, any time we took a shower, there was water on all sides of the retrofitted bathtub shower get-up, so we had to lay towels down everywhere. There was mold on the ceiling. Some tech person knocked on our door at 8:45 pm, requesting to come in to "get the size and the brand of the TV, for a general inventory." The beach was unusable due to an abundance of algae build up. I get it that it's hurricane season and the sea is all roughed up, but that stuff could be cleaned up or some mitigation barrier could be installed 100 yards out from the beach, like other properties in the area have done. Food was good, plenty of variety, service was very good, above average. Activities were... water aerobics and archery competitions. 6/10 for me.
