Not ready for prime time
We stayed at the Carambola Beach Resort on 7/7-7/8 after missing our flight home after a week in St. Croix. The check in process took more than two hours. An employee left and went home before we were checked in. The rooms were nice and had a great view, but had no amenities. A request for towels and bedding for the pull-out sofa took 4 hours and a half dozen calls or trips to the front desk. Despite being efficiencies, the rooms had no coffee mugs, glassware, plates, or cooking materials. Not in the room and not available to borrow. The "restauarant" is just a bar menu. Maybe there will be an actual restaurant some day. The bar and room service closed very early. There is also nothing to do at the resort. The pool was nice, but no beach towels were available. This resort has potential, but was severely understaffed and what staff was there was uninterested in being helpful or accommodating. While it must be difficult to run a resort in the time of COVID, we did not get the sense that "we were all in this together and we'll make the best of it." Instead, any reasonable request was met with indifference or hostility as if COVID was an excuse to simply not provide guest services. In addition to COVID, the resort claimed to be under renovations. Our stay here was unplanned, but we met several other guests who were beginning a week-long vacation who were encountering similar difficulties. I would not recommend staying here until COVID is over and they are fully staffed.

The staff members were nice especially the girls at the guard gate during the day. Although one of the guards on the night shift seemed like he hates his job didn’t even ask the COVID questions and dismissed all procedures. The property needs a lot of work. Furniture and linens need to be upgraded. The sofa bed had dirty linens on them most likely from previous stays. The floors were super dirty and the furniture were dusty. I saw the cleaners walking around with their brooms around the property dragging them on the sidewalks. I will not be staying here again. They do not deserve their 4 stars.

Off the beaten path with large rooms, outdoor porch seating and relaxing pool right next to a semi-private beach.

emodel in December...wait til then to book.
You can tell they have been out of practice due to Covid 19. Dead bee carcases all over our room. Obviously was not checked by staff before allowing us in. Very little staff. Being remodeled. Resort is beautiful. Rooms ok but will need remodel as well. Design is amazing. A littlw disappointed in this Marriott property.

A beautiful and serene setting
My villa was large and comfortable with an amazing ocean view. I woke up early every morning to watch the sunrise. The resort was super quiet as it appeared that most of the guests were there for work, primarily hurricane-related. The resort is large with a small beach and a number of different gathering areas where you can relax and watch a spectacular sunset. The resort is far out from the main town but if you crave quiet this will be perfect for you. Other guests advised me that there were some nice bars and restaurants nearby. I was there for work and spent my entire visit with the locals I came to visit so did not have an opportunity to explore the area surrounding the resort. The resort’s bar was open and you could order food there and there was both a breakfast and dinner buffet available. I had breakfast at the resort and the full breakfast served on the buffet was good with plenty of options. The resort still has some noticeable hurricane damage but seems to be fully operational otherwise. The locals I was visiting advised me that pre-hurricane it was a lively setting and for the locals it was THE place for a nice Sunday brunch. The resort was recently acquired by Marriott and hopefully it will be restored to its former glory soon. It’s a lovely setting with beautiful views. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend booking an ocean view villa. I stayed in building 4 and enjoyed a wonderful view and was lulled to sleep each night by the crashing waves.

It’s better to stay in one of the towns
The hotel is really far away from everything. Taxis cost you $15 per person to go one way to anywhere. The restaurant/bar on sight didn’t have anything to mix drinks with and didn’t have hardly any menu choices. As that’s pretty much the only place you can go to without calling an expensive taxi, that’s disappointing. The beach was horrible! SUPER ROCKY! You can’t even step into the water because the WHOLE beach and water in front of the property (for at least a mile) is incredibly rocky. The water was rough too. The hot tub doesn’t work. We canceled the rest of the reservation and went to a different hotel in Christiansted.

Poor 2.0
Not as Advertised
Based on the pictures posted and the amenities advertised, the current state of the hotel falls enormously short of expectations. We (my girlfriend and I) booked our stay here on short notice, as we both took significant time off to visit Rome prior to the coronavirus outbreak. We saw a four star hotel on St. Croix, thought it would be a steal, and booked an 8 night stay. If you are looking for a four star hotel when booking this property, you will be extremely disappointed. The resort is still an active construction site, and upon arriving you will be asked to sign a waiver releasing the resort owners from any liability due to injuries you may suffer as a result of the property being an active construction site. I would estimate that a third of the rooms are still under repair. Only recently opened to the public, but still mostly FEMA employees, Lime Tree refinery workers, and certain small groups. The property has still yet to be fully recovered from Hurricane Maria. With good management, it would have a lot of potential. Personnel: In total, I don’t think that more than 8 people at any one time serving a resort which nominally has 154 rooms. I suspect that the true number is something like four or five people on staff at one time, with housekeepers having the night off and the bartender/extra cook having the day off. As a result of that, the customer service is quite poor. Amenities: There are almost no amenities as advertised.
