Nerja
What you need to know before you go
The town of Nerja on the Costa del Sol in Andalucía presents miles of pristine white beaches, mountainous backdrops, and cliffside coves bordering Spain’s Mediterranean coast. Its charming town centre has several masterpieces of Roman, Baroque and Moorish architecture. You can wander past historic houses and cosy squares, with natural surroundings of cliffs and canyons.
Many visit Nerja for its famous caves, where you can see primitive paintings dating back 42,000 years. One of the chambers serves as a natural amphitheatre that regularly hosts live concerts. Nature lovers can enjoy hiking and camping at the Sierras of Tejeda, Almijara and Alhama Natural Park, or spend their days lounging on Nerja’s many beaches.
