The signs of time are evident on this property, it is evident that it has seen better days. However, the staff is welcoming and the service is good. Note - the town is dormant and looks almost abandoned

Staff is very nice and accomodating.Lake front facility, facing great view of the lake. Though small, town is very nice and it has unique character. Room is great but not elegant but I have no reason to complain. Hotel breakfast is very good, I did not try dinner there and assume Japanese food items. Note that food choices outside are limited and many restuarants close by 6PM. Only a ramen place was open late and it was good food there although people smoke inside. If you are driving, make sure gas tank is full as there are not many gas stations in this area of Hokkaido and even those exists open late in the morning. I was a solo traveller, hiker and I truly enjopyed everything there.

While the hotel is a little outdated, I really enjoyed my stay. Kind staff. The traditional Japanese styled room was big and comfortable, with the expected amenities that come with this kind of room. The bathroom was small and the toilet was slightly wonky, but not big issues. The bath was a good size, and the outdoor onsen area was nice after a long day. Laundry worked well.

Good value for money
We had a room facing the lake and the view was fantastic. It is an old hotel and therefore, do not expect things you usually see in the new hotels. However, we would say it is good value for our money as the room is clean and service is good.

For the price I pay, this is definitely not worth it, at all. It is a lot of do it yourself. Not foreigner friendly. Rigid and unhelpful in general. They put themself on Expedia but they do not reply to messages so don't expect to get help and answer there.

The glasses in the room had lipstick stains and didn't appear to have been cleaned. Although room was large and had a lovely views of the lake, it fell below expectations in cleanliness. I wouldn't choose to stay here again

A tat bit pricey, but good location with good view of lake from the room. Place you will want to stay if you are looking for traditional Japanese onsen experience.

Wonderful view of Lake Akan
We drove a rented car and arrived at the front of Hotel Gozensui, only to realise parking was at the rear. Not a major concern as it looked like a common mistake among travellers; a hotel staff would step out and pass you a small flyer showing you the route to the parking lots. It was a rainy day when we arrived so it was a nice gesture when the hotel staff also came out with umbrellas to shield us from the rain. Room was extremely spacious for just the two of us. The futons were not prepared when we arrived. We appreciate this because it allowed us to enjoy the space in the room when we needed it. Futons were only set up around 7pm. Toilets were (as usual in all of Japan) clean and adequate. The view of Lake Akan was slightly affected by the rainy mist. But it did cleared up for a moment to allow us to soak in the awesome view. Wouldn't trade it for anything else. Amenities are aplenty in the area with eating houses, restaurants, convenience stores, and retail shops. Unlike other parts of Hokkaido I was in, there were plenty of shops opened till late.

Good location at Lake Akan
Convenient location by lakeside. Hotel is next to Lake Akan cruise boat terminal and minutes' walk to local handicraft shops and Ainu Village. Relaxing stay.

Centrally located accommodation
The location of the hotel is good, being just next to the ferry pier for the boat tours around Lake Akan, and within walking distance of most the sights in Akan-ko-han. While the hotel is old and tired, and the interior has seen better days, the friendliness and efficiency of the staff, and their willingness to please, more than make up for it. We had a very nice stay at the hotel. Our main gripe: free WIFI is only available in the lobby area, not the rooms, and the stench of nicotine and tobacco as our room was a smoking room and on a smoking floor - but to be fair, when we made our booking online, only the smoking rooms in the category we wanted were available.

Hotel was right by the lake so the view was amazing. However night falls early in winter so we didn't get to enjoy the view in the evening. It was also next to the cruise stop so it was very convenient. The spring water from the shower was amazing and left my hair and skin feeling supple!
