Onsen hotel next to Yubatake
I want to start off by saying I had a nice visit, I did the half board option and the food was plentiful and very tasty. Lots of variety, the sushi was not good and their take on Western food isn't great but the Japanese food is awesome. 2 different Onsen areas that alternate gender daily so you can try both. The hotel is old, let's just prepare you for this, really old. It could do with a massive makeover but I doubt it will happen as they are very busy due to the amazing location. If you are Japanese you will find it very run down, I was disappointed on my first day but by the second day I had moved past it. It is old (Showa era) so it was a smoking hotel, the rooms smell like smoke, not much you can do. Staff was very friendly and helpful, free Yukaya rental and a bag to carry stuff, you can pick different colours of Yukaya as well. Right across the street from Yubatake, lots of little shopping spots and short walk to everything, even the open air park Onsen. Watch the show of the traditional cooling, it is neat. Very relaxing trip, better as a romantic trip, not a lot to actually do in town so it forces you to unwind and relax. Short walk from the Kusatsu bus terminal but downhill so if mobility is an issue they provide a free shuttle service. If you want a fancy hotel then this isn't it but it is not expensive and great location.

Nice onsen hotel just beside the Yubatake
This was amazing onsen beside the Yubatake (which is right in front on the hotel) so you are in the middle of the town they have Yukata you can borrow and take wear to walk and take pictures outside too. Breakfast and dinner had a lot of options and was really good. Make sure to Book Hal-Board, it is worth it! They have onsen eggs for breakfast too! The only downside is that it is a bit old and the walls are thin so can be noisy when people talk on the hallway but Overall this was an amazing hotel and will come back again!

This place is very old, so you can't expect much about the cleanliness. What we didn't like is the heater. The heater is old and the smell is very bad. We can smell the burning oil. Also there is no parking for this hotel.

Great location
Good wifi. Nice onsen on the ground floor. Great location right by Yubatake. Yukatas and towels provided in the room. Breakfast and dinner buffet are very generous. Very helpful staff. The walls seem a little thin, so you can hear people in the hallway.

very nice hotel
very japanese hotel! the room is very nice but the breakfast and dinner (half board option) is a bit disappointing! There are many places to eat around the hotel, so the half board option is not neccessary.

The hotel need some serious renovation, but the staff did their best to make our stay pleasant. It’s super close to the Yubatake and the view of the square is amazing! Dinner and Breakfast buffet had a lot of Chinese dishes. Maybe due to the high number of Chinese speaking guests. Taste was so and so.

Good location but bad service
The hotel is in the center of this town. Just few steps from Yubatake. Good for traveller who want to walk around the city. But what I really dont like is the way they gives service to the customer. After I tried to check-in when I arrived around 2pm at the hotel, they asked me to come back again which is understandable(check in time is 4pm) but when I came back again around 5pm they still keep me waiting by saying that the room is not ready yet! What a bad surprised, I have so tried and need to get shower but can not do that while any other people can do!!

Large onsen hotel I the middle of Kusatsu onsen
This is a large onsen hotel. I was looking for a smaller onsen ryokan. You can't tell from the pictures because they don't show the outside. The Washoku dinner and the onsen were pretty good, but I will look for a better location next time.
