Free Wifi Hotels in Shanghai

An intoxicating blend of East and West, Shanghai's a sprawling city where steely, modern skyscrapers jostle for attention with ancient, lantern-lit temples. It’s a place where the fashion pack collides with suited and booted businesspeople and where locals and tourists fight to be heard haggling at busy markets. It’s a city which has developed with breathtaking speed, becoming not only an architectural marvel, with some of the tallest buildings on Earth, but an economic giant powering the world.

Things to see

Start your day in Shanghai on the Bund. Lined with colonial buildings, it's a beautiful stretch with runs alongside the river. Just across the water, illuminated skyscrapers of the business district are an iconic view of the city. Here you'll see the towering Oriental Pearl which is a must-visit. Ascend its 2 pearls for sweeping views of the city which stretch all the way to the Yangtze. For a rest from the hustle and bustle, Yuyan Gardens is a tranquil spot full of shimmering pools, blooming flowers and traditional pagodas. It's also home to a free museum where you can discover the history of Shanghai. If you’re in need of some retail therapy, Xujiahui Shopping District overflows with trendsetting stores, while art lovers will want to make a beeline to the red-temple like China Art Palace which showcases modern Chinese works.

Hotels in Shanghai

Shanghai's home to a raft of hotels, with something to sort pretty much every budget. Super luxurious hotels in Shanghai with free WiFi offer floor to ceiling windows, marble bathrooms with deep soaking baths and subtle, technological touches. Here you can also expect to find fine dining restaurants onsite, along with sensuous spas where you can unwind in a huge swimming pool before heading for a deep tissue massage. On the other end of the scale, you'll still find budget hotels with free WiFi in Shanghai, many of which offer small but chic rooms with traditional Chinese touches.

Where to stay

If you want to be close to the city's main cultural sights, the centrally located Puxi district is a good place to stay – here you'll be pottering distance from iconic sites such as the People’s Square and the Shanghai Museum. The Najing Street is also located here, and the whole area is surrounded by hotels, ranging from high-class to budget. If you're after views, head to Pudong and stay in one of its skyscrapers. For those on a budget, head out towards the university area, where you’ll find cheap hotels and a laid-back, youthful atmosphere.

How to get to Shanghai

Pudong International Airport is the main gateway to Shanghai. It's located 40 kilometres east of downtown, but with frequent, high-speed Maglev train takes just 8 minutes to reach Longyang Road Station, and from there a short subway ride on Line 2 will transport you to the central People’s Square. It’s also possible to make the whole journey on the subway Line 2. If arriving from elsewhere in China, you may arrive into the Hongqiao Airport, 13 kilometres to the south. It is connected by the same subway line.
