2/10 Poor

Lousy hotel
The Good: Newer hotel. No issues with the cleanliness of room. Easy check-in and check-out! The Bad: The shower water is not hot. It is eco -friendly and only gets lukewarm. That was quite uncomfortable. The bathroom sink / water smelled like sulfur, so I was concerned even brushing my teeth. The bathroom has close to no privacy. Someone siting on the bed can see your silhouette ….while you shower. The bathroom doors have big vents and barely close. Gym is tiny. Even though the place is new… it still feels like it’s a 200 year old building/basement. The area is not great for walking , or parking. There are about 2-3 liquor stores a few feet away… if that says anything. I spent the night before at intercontinental in downtown…. What a huge difference. If you want to visit San Diego stay closer to mission or pacific beach…. Or go to intercontinental downtown!

very comfortable for a sawtooth mountain
modern, sleek, pristine. nice internal courtyard for entertaining. attached restaurant and bar, with live music friday nights. some balconies available. rooms good-sized, nice bathroom. various restaurants. grocery, fishing tackle service, marina within a short walk. only complaint is describing its location as "Liberty Station", which would be a couple minute card ride away. a $10-20 ride fare to center city.

Should have stayed someplace else
Valet parking was the only thing available & it was $37 per day. Had to park off-site for $12 and parking at the nearby lot was a bit of a challenge. Should have been provided in the description. Gym left a lot to be desired. Lot of noise at night, think they were doing construction but it was bothersome. When we initially checked in; the lady seemed frazzled and was upset that her co worker was away from the desk. HHonors award was not provided.

Great wedding event stay!
This hotel has everything you need for a great stay. Staff was exceptional at every request. Short walking distance to great eating places. Our family chose this location for our daughters wedding Hotel. Not only did we have comfortable and well appointed rooms, but we also held a welcome cocktail reception in the courtyard that was executed efficiently and to our specifications by the event staff. Coffee and breakfast at the restaurant was above board and the staff there was very attentive and welcoming as well. Valet staff went above and beyond (Luis and Kollin) with our numerous trips loading and unloading to our wedding venue at Liberty Station. Maggie, Taslyn and LuLu at the front desk were delightful and extremely helpful and professional at every request. My wife and I would highly recommend The Monsaraz for an event gathering hotel or even just for a fun weekend stay in San Diego.

Do Not Recommend
One of the most uncomfortable beds I’ve ever slept in. Hard as a rock and woke up with back/shoulder pain every day. Staff was friendly but other than that, not a very pleasant experience.

Why the hell would you have a loud exercise class with a sound system Sunday morning? Let guests know in advance and offer them the option of an exterior room. Place has steadily declined the last three visits. Not coming back.

6/10 Good

Most of the staff were nice with the exception of one of the receptionists at the desk who was a bit rude and seemed like she was not interested in helping anyone. The valet staff were very friendly and always quick to help even when they were very busy or were only working alone. It's a nice property and the hotel itself is very nice. I enjoyed the courtyard area of the restaurant. Beautiful art and style. Negatives: The parking isn't great if you're not going to use valet. The street parking fills up very quickly. The shower drained seemed to be clogged because the water was so slow to drain which caused us to be standing in dirty water while showering. The shower handle hose had what looked like mildew and crust all around it. It was clearly not cleaned very well. Our bathroom only had 1 roll of toilet paper that was already mostly used. We had to ask for more toilet paper and they only gave us 1 roll. The bathroom only had 1 towel total and there were 3 of us staying there. There weren't even hand towels or anything. We requested a pack and play for my son and there was no cover for the pad except for a thin sheet that looked like it was just thrown in. When I was trying to adjust the sheet to cover the actual pad I found stains all over the pad. There were loud noises at night that sounded like water running or something. We couldn't tell where it was coming from. We assumed it was from another room or maybe the laundry room.

8/10 Very good

Great location. We reserved at room with a patio which was on the main level (cost a more because it’s an upgrade) but they had events all weekend. We had to deal with the noise. Didn’t get to even utilize the patio. The receptionist did take care of the parking for us due to this. So that was definitely a plus. Great gym. Hotel was clean. You can only valet (which is $37 a day) but you can go in and out. The valet team was excellent
