With its own Civil War history, the Braehead Manor is the perfect place to stay when you're touring northern Virginia battlefields. We enjoyed breakfast in the dining room where Gen. Lee ate on the morning of the Battle of Fredericksburg and stood under the tree where he tied his horse, Traveller. It's an easy drive to several battlefields--including Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Wilderness and Spotsylvania Courthouse.
Our hostess, Mary, was a delight and was happy to accommodate our special dietary needs. We'll be going back soon. Too many battlefields to explore in one trip.
