WARNING: not a boutique hotel
My expectations were set in a certain way by this institution being called a 'boutique hotel'. In fact (as I got its manager to admit to me) it’s nothing more than a "guest house", or rather a hostel. I had paid quite a lot too: as a regular visitor to Chiang Mai, I know USD 220 for three nights, even in high season, should get you a nice room in a well-managed and well-located hotel. The city is full of small ‘boutique hotels’ that are comfortable, classy and well managed. Mona has jumped on the ‘boutique’ bandwagon and fails on all those counts. But even this would be just about acceptable if only it was advertised with more honesty. As my photos show, the room itself - while large and quite well furnished - was impractical and unclean. The owners clearly paid quite a lot of money recently to refurbish the place. But it’s not guest-friendly: there wasn’t a bedside table or light and any attempts to make the place ‘classy’ are undermined by tacky signs stuck to walls telling you to keep the noise down. Importantly: there is no restaurant or room service. They provide a breakfastbut other than that literally nothing apart water. I was told I could get food at the nearest 7-Eleven, which was apparently “not far”. However, it turned out to be a 15-minute walk away that required me to take a taxi back. Mona is being ‘flexible with the truth’ in claiming this is a 3-star hotel. Until this changes, they will continue to have disappointed, angry guests.

Very nice hotel in a convenient location
It was a nice hotel at a convenient location. We faced heavy traffic in the city areas of Chiang Mai because of narrow streets. I'd recommend this hotel since its street is not narrow and it is linked to a broad road at about 100 meters.

Great service
Stayed here with 9 of my friends to see the city. The hotel was great in regards to location, price, and cleanliness. However, the mattresses were very hard and uncomfortable. Don't come here if you are looking for something comfortable. However, we did love our stay here and were treated respectfully and with great service.

cute little hotel
This hotel is small and it has only a few rooms. It is about 10 minutes away from the old city and temples, very quiet residential neighborhood. Nice staff, the room is very spacious.

Best, low price hotel in Thailand
Our favourite hotel in Thailand, the area was so peaceful and the staff were very helpful with booking outings. I loved the character of this hotel.

Not so touristy!
When our previous plans fell through, we need a place for our family of four. Luckily the Mona was available. With two bedrooms, we could spread out a bit. We had great wifi, delicious breakfast each morning, and a fascinating area to explore. A two minute walk brought us to the Main Street that had inexpensive street vendors everywhere. Our family could pick up dinner for $5usd total. Though we didn't use it, there was 24 hour access and they would help book tours. The beds were a bit hard and the floors a bit squeaky, but not enough to bother complaining.

Nice staff, clean but far from city
Very very nice staff, great breakfast. Not walking distance to old city but short drive. Clean rooms but you can hear neighbors easily. Would recommend to any friend.

Quaint boutique hotel in convenient neighbourhood
I spent in little over 24 hours in Chiang Mai; and wanted to stay in a more "homely" environment rather than and large scale establishment. So, I chose this. From the photos on hotels.com, it looked promising. For that price, it was a no-brainer. So, in real life, close to the airport, easy access. Very resident feel, from check-in to rooms and gardens. I rented a motorbike. There was a renter just outside on the main road, 5 min walk away. So getting in and out, moving about was not an issue. Old town is about a 10 min ride away. Night market, 5 min away. Room is clean, staff are helpful, and breakfast was good. My partner says the bed was a tad hard, but I did not feel it - too tired so just knocked off. I'll recommend here, especially if you are mobile with your own transport, and want to be away from too much hustle bustle of old town.

Overall is Excellent
I spend two nights at Chiang Mai. Mona hotel is not far away from the night bazaar. I stay in family suite can fit up to 4 person. The room is very clean, the bed linen is very comfortable. But the surrounding is very noisy with the ktv and vehicle passing by. In term of price and location definitely is a great choice for budget or family trip.

Comfort like staying home
Pleasant! The staffs take care of us with great care. Although there is no food service, but complementary coffee can be found downstairs 24-7 and complementary bottles of water are provided everyday. Since Chiang Mai has plenty of yummy breakfast restaurants and fine coffee shops, we don't mind exploring for great food outside :). The only small complaint is that in some bedroom facing the sun, the small A/C does not do a good justice for cooling down the room. It wasn't much problem for us though since we spent most of the time outside during the day.
