Idk about this place
I couldn’t get in touch with the hotel because the number was not working. So I ended up not trusting the fact that they were even open

Staff was very personable, friendly, and helpful, they really made the stay wonderful. Rooms were small, but clean and perfect for a stay in the city. We would stay there again.

The location of the Gem is great. The Forager store/restaurant right next door is handy although expensive. The room I had was clean and very small. I love the openable windows so I could get some fresh air. There was construction and noise and the roof was closed at the time of my visit and I was unaware prior to my arrival of these conditions.

It is a very functional hotel and well situated. The rooms are tight for space and corridors very dark but it is clean and the shower is excellent. Staff are friendly and helpful.

During my visit the roof top area was closed, and they had recently stopped providing free breakfast. We stayed Friday & Saturday night. Saturday morning is trash day on the block and it is a very loud process. The location is great, with easy access to PATH train and subway, but the "special view" just means more noise and less sleep

Decent no frills hotel in excellent location.
Stayed in room 218 - close to a busy junction so you can feel & hear NYC life right out the window which was fine for me as I am use to city noise but not a room for light sleepers. Room for a single person is absolutely fine and well laid out.
Liked the decor. Not sure about the bathroom door not be able to close basically if your sharing you will see the person you're with on the toilet and in 218 you defo had to close the curtains or the whole of 8 ave can see you!
Had a few issues with the heating it was a cold February weekend and the room was freezing the first night. Realised that you control the heating yourself but found the system a bit complicated. Room ended up being either cold or super hot.
Great location near subway for airport and can walked to west and greenwich village for nightlife and touristy midtown is easy jump on the subway. Much prefer it to the Times sq hotel options.
Lots of restaurants, diners nearby and some good brunch places.
Excellent choice for the LGBT traveller with a wide & good choice of gay nightlife nearby, Christopher St an easy 10 min walk and easy to get to hells kitchen as well. Walked around at 2am and felt perfectly safe
Could see the empire state building from my window

Good for a short stay
Very friendly and helpful front desk staff. The room itself was small and a bit dusty/outdated. For one night, it was fine, but I wouldn't be comfortable for more than 1 or 2 nights because of how cramped. I appreciated the hand sanitizer along with the other amenities in the room. Excellent location.

False advertising disappointment
Booked this for my wife's birthday. We specifically chose it for the rooftop terrace prominently advertised. When we arrived it was explained to us that it was not constructed yet. During and after our stay, I noticed that they were still advertising it. I reached out to the hotel and they never responded. Disappointing. Good neighborhood though.

The view from my window was enclosed, interior, due to the building design, which was ok, not great, but not a big deal, maybe quieter than a street-facing window.
