First walking in after a long scenic gravel road we were greeted by 4 horses running together in the red sun it was like heaven on earth. Unbelievable. The bungalows were clean and slightly outdated but didn't mind it at all. The shower has about 12 seconds (literally) of hot water then you are bathing in cool to very slightly warm water. The pool was fantastic but the jacuzzi was not in working order. The hot springs were good as well not too hot but not to cold, there were 3 of them. Mud baths were out of pots, there was plentiful. The trail on the resort was about a 15 minute walk which wraps you back around to the pool area from the beginning to the end. The steam bath was nice even though it smells like rotten eggs it was very relaxing, but watch your feet it will get burned. Wear slippers or some sort of foot coverage. The food was good but not very Costa Rica authentic, I would suggest renting a car to get off the resort to get some real authentic food which is amazing. The tours are very reasonably priced for what it entails I had an amazing time riding horses and seeing monkeys and waterfalls abs zip lining upside down. There is no iron ironing boards, toothpaste available or anything of that nature. What you see is what you get. To sum it up, I would return, it was beautiful.

Beautiful remote location in the mountains! Beautiful hot springs with great pools and a fantastic natural sauna. There is also an amazing trail system above the hotel that is great for hiking. Hotel staff couldn't have been nicer. We loved our room, a quiet detached villa. However, the rooms and facility are dated and need remodeling. If you want a new luxury feel, this may not be for you. Also, the property is spread out, so a lot of uphill hiking is needed to get from the rooms to the restaurant and pools. It may be an issue for some people. The road there wasn't too bad, about 6 miles of it unpaved. We had an SUV and were fine (early January, during dry season). Plenty of sedans were also on it. Just watch out for buses, bikes, construction traffic, one lane bridges, and stray animals! It took us about 45 minutes from the main intersection in Liberia. If you want to go to the National Park, you must backtrack to Liberia and go back up a different road. That would be a long day. The restaurant is very good. However, it's not cheap and the only option unless you want to drive back into town. The free breakfast is good, but the buffet only happened once in 5 days we were there. You can order from the menu if the buffet isn't happening.

Great location and very nice guest cottages but in our room the toilet ran all 3 nights and was not fixed, lights were missing, molding was missing from furniture, lighting outside was also missing/broken -- maintenance is a real issue here. Nice staff.

Borinquen could be a world class facility, but it needs some maintenance. The grounds, the pools, and the restaurant were excellent. The rooms, however, needed some attention. Air-conditioning and hot water were issues. I’d still recommend this property, if you are willing to take the drive out there, based on the beauty of the grounds. Just make sure your room is in working order.
