Even though the edge of Graça isn’t especially close to the very centre of Lisbon (Praça do Comércio is about a twelve-minute bus journey away), the area has a sense of community that the more heavily touristed parts of the city lack. Roots fits in perfectly with the laidback, no-nonsense feel of the neighbourhood. It’s not huge, but the space is used well, and we love the amount of natural light that comes in through the glass doors.
Home truths:
*You might not get an in-person check-in
*There's no lift, so you'll have to take the stairs to the second floor
*We measured 60dB in the living room, so it's not particularly quiet
*There's no washing machine in the flat
*The bedroom is quite small – there are two single beds pushed together rather than a double, and no much space for unpacking a suitcase
*One person can sleep on a futon in the living room, if necessary
