About this home

Marinus is a contemporary architectural masterpiece, completed in 2008, filled with fine art and comfortable furnishings.

Marinus is located on the sparsely populated Big Sur Coast where the Santa Lucia mountains meet the blue Pacific in a very dramatic way. Expansive ocean views are offered from almost every room. The estate is gated and very private.

Marinus comprises a 4000 square foot main residence and an (optional) detached 600 square foot guesthouse. The main residence has three bedrooms, including two master suites. The layout of the bedrooms ensures maximum privacy. The guesthouse is a one-bedroom architectural gem with many unexpected amenities. THE GUESTHOUSE BECOMES AVAILABLE BY MAKING A RESERVATION FOR A TOTAL OF EIGHT GUESTS.

All our bedrooms are "real" bedrooms each with an en suite bath.

The estate features 1600 square feet of wooden decks, 900 square foot patio and several other outdoor seating kiosks. Marinus enjoys a super moderate micro-climate. The typical daytime temperatures is 70F (21C) year round with light ocean breezes.

Special amenities include a theater room, fitness room, outdoor hot tub spa, outdoor wood burning fireplace, Wifi and courtesy land-line house phone.

Marinus is very close to the Ragged Point Inn, which serves Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

THINGS TO DO - Walk or picnic on miles of pristine beaches where you may very likely have the beach to yourself. See Hearst Castle, the Elephant Seal Rookery, the artist town of Cambria and Paso Roble wine country. Explore the entire Big Sur Coast via stunning Highway 1. Many guest have stated that they were happy to just sink into the plush deck chairs at Marinus and not leave the property. Either way, lots of special experiences await.

EVENTS - Currently, we do not host events, like weddings or parties.

CAPACITY - We can only accommodate a maximum of 10 people on property at any one time.

RATES - The advertised rate is an average calculated by HomeAway/vrbo and may be misleading, especially for short term rentals during the high season. To be certain of the costs, please request a quote.

LOCATION - This is a sparsely populated area. We are located at Ragged Point, 1/2 mile south of the Ragged Point Inn. The location given by VRBO is misleading because it is based on the San Simeon post office location. We are actually 15 miles north of San Simeon, so closer to Gorda than San Simeon.

ACCESS - There is full access from Highway 101/46 north or south and Highway 1 north or south.

    Tranquility Abounds

Marinus is the relaxing retreat you seek. Beautiful spaces, lovely winds, brilliant sunsets...we barely left the home. Beds were incredibly comfortable as were the deck chairs. Thoughtful instructions were given when we arrived. Fun movies in the DVD archive and several board games. Excellent gym! Weights up to 25lbs. We were thrilled! The nearby beach is a private treasure. We are always grateful when someone shares such an incredibly special place. It was exactly what we hoped it would be! *internet warning: we challenged it with 3 college students and one physician using online resources. It gridlocked frequently. This will only be relevant to those trying to work remotely while traveling. Could not find a way to play music in the house, so ask owner if it interests you. Discovered the last night that Netflix and other streaming apps were available in the theatre room (not in living room). Hope this helps!

A wonderful contemporary home with great grounds. Typical Cabrillo Hwy ocean view. House has everything you might need. Tip----Keep searching to find the exercise room--you have to go through the home theater and the office to get there.

    Beautiful place to get away

Fantastic property - extremely well designed and perched on the edge of the pacific. Not too close to much of anything so plan on a BBQ on the deck watching the sunset. Great for 2-3 couples.

    Peaceful getaway, stunning view

The pictures don't lie: this house has an absolutely stunning ocean view from nearly every room, and a huge porch to enjoy it from outside. High end appliances allowed us to cook some lovely meals (though it may be time to replace a few of the pots and pans). The sense of tranquility was exactly what we needed over the long holiday weekend. Best of all, this was truly a last-minute rental, and the hosts went out of their way to ensure it would be ready for check-in by the time we arrived. Can't wait to stay again!

    Perfect Getaway!

If you are looking for a place to relax and unplug, this is it. We enjoyed the views from the deck and saw several whales! The bonus was on the last night we saw so many stars and the Milky Way. The house is beautifully decorated and the kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans! We would definitely return.

    Wonderful Big Sur!

Marinus is a modern but totally livable, comfortable, and well designed house perched 300 feet above the Pacific. From the deck and indeed from the entire living/dining room area, you have a commanding view of the sea. The bedrooms, bathrooms and kitchen are well appointed and maintained, it is easy to prepare food at home or go to the Ragged Point Inn, just a few minutes away. Even the knives were sharp...a first! A great place to relax, decompress, and rejuvenate, especially in the hot tub, which shares the Pacific view. Even though 'off season', we saw whales, dolphins, and array of coastal sea birds. Plenty of places to explore and hike, but the house was sooo nice, we rarely left.
