Enjoyed the stay. It wasn't clear during the booking process that there would be an additional $50 charge on arrival. I don't drink and we had other dinner plans, so it seemed wrong to have to pay for the $50 vouchers.

Great location, nice room
Location was perfect for walking around. Very safe and clean area. Room was lovely, very spacious and had nice amenities. The check in was fast.
I found it odd that a 4 star hotel asked if it was ok if we only got 1 room key as they didnt have enough to give 2. Also they didnt have the vouchers for the restaurant, told us to come back later for them and they still didnt have them but just to go to the restaurant and tell them about it. The server at the restaurant was condescending and rude. She did not mention it was happy hour, when i went to the podium to ask for the menu the guy there shuffled some papers around in a drawer and said he didnt have one and had to go print more. He never came back. So i had to go on their website for the happy hour menu. Then the bill came wrong twice with the vouchers not applied correctly. It was just annoying. Little things like these are disappointing for a 4 star hotel.

My room wasn’t ready at check in time. They took my phone number to call me when it was ready, but they never called, so I had to call them later to make sure it was ready in the evening.

Extended family trip
Our stay at the hotel was not bad. My main issue was with the people working the front desk. I have worked in customer service and was shocked how unfriendly the staff are. Not a good morning may I help you, Welcome to the Talbott or even asked how our 5 night stay was going? Not to mention the fact that they ended up charging my credit card twice for the room when we checked in. They did resolve the issue the next day when i questioned the charge.
I found it intersecting that they were unable to answer my question on the subway costs. You would think that the front desk would be able to answer questions on the city, that is why you go to the front desk to get help or information about the city you have come to visit and paid a premium to stay at their hotel!!
The restaurant staff and cleaning staff were all very friendly and helpful.

Tired hotel, insane prices … and resort fees
Resort fees … just charge what you need to charge and don’t hoodwink people with hidden fees. It’s dishonest.

We picked the Hotel purely for the location, as it is next door to our son’s apt building, and it did look nice from the outside. After paying $400 a night (over $500 after tax), we were disappointed that the room was extremely basic, with absolutely no feel of luxury! The bathroom looks very old, with shower over an old apt-style tub. What bothers me the most is the toilet paper holder was at the same level of the very low toilet bowel and right next to it. Just imagine the splash…. Gross. Maybe we came at an expensive season. We had stayed at nicer hotels in Chicago for much less.
