Zadar
What you need to know before you go
Zadar is a historical city on the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia. Its Old Town has pedestrian-friendly squares dotted with Roman and Venetian ruins, along with modern shops, restaurants and nightlife spots. Iconic landmarks such as St. Mary’s Convent, Church of St Lawrence, and Church of St. Donatus house religious arts and beautiful frescoes dating back to ancient times.
Closer to the sea, Zadar’s promenade has modern art installations by Croatian designer Nikola Bašić – Greeting to the Sun has 300 solar floor panels that light up at night, while Sea Organ is a huge musical instrument that plays music when waves flow through its hollow tubes. Zadar often sees smaller crowds than most Croatian cities, which means you can take your time experiencing the sights of this port town.
