The Plaza is a gem in the wine country. It is old but well maintained. The architecture is interesting and features many items like bas relief sculpture and stained glass. We had a comfortable room facing an inner courtyard which was quiet. Outside rooms on the plaza might have a lot of traffic noise.
The grounds are beautiful, with a small stream running through the property. The restaurant opens onto a pleasant, tree shaded outside courtyard by the outdoor pool. The is an indoor pool and spa but we did not visit.
We had good lunch on the day we arrived. We went to breakfast each morning and found very mixed results, ranging from a great omelette bar on the weekend to weekday buffet that featured cold, hard bacon and lukewarm, mostly liquid scrambled eggs. The service was attentive and friendly, however.
The concierge, Pablo, was fantastic. We had a great time chatting with him and getting laughs for our weak attempts at Spanish (we are English speakers, and found most of the staff could handle this well). He helped us plan excursions into the wine country, recommended great places to eat, and gave advice on the best way to drive to Vińa del Mar (our next stop).
The hotel is next to a museum and a casino. We spent several hours enjoying the museum, but did not check out the casino. Maybe next time.
