It was ok The place snd the areas are unique, I would like to rate the hotel as 5 . The service at breakfast was disappointed , only 2 waiters, one cleaning the table the second busy to gust service. Ask fo omlet that not arrived, no refill of the ages and the orangjuice at the self service table , The hotel in general required aome refreshment. The rromes are dated , the lobby furniture are old I would return because of the area but don”t expect luxury as it should seen in first look

My room had a wonderful feel to it, somewhere between cozy and opulent. It was perfect for me. The duo at check-in were wonderfully helpful and appeared to enjoy working with people. The young man who showed us to our room was welcoming and even gave us a mini private tour with a lot of information about the history, tile murals, paintings and furniture in the palace. Would love to return and introduce to more friends and family.

Very interesting old architecture. Our biggest complaint - the dining room staff acted like this was some 3-star Michelin place. Food was mediocre. Service was THE WORST. Service all had their noses in the air. In the evening, 4 people basically standing around doing little. We were the 2nd people in. Watched them ignore us, and go take orders for everyone else. My wife got up and walked out, and asked why they were ignoring us. They actually did us a favor. We drove to Mealhada, and found an ACTUAL Michelin-starred restaurant that was infinitely superior to the hotel restaurant, as well as cheaper. Only staff worthwhile was a woman who covered breakfast BY HERSELF, and did an excellent job.

Outstanding historical property located on a high elevation with exceptional views. The staff went above & beyond to make our stay perfect. The restaurant on site serves delicious food. They have a full bar & massive historic lounge area. The sunsets were amazing & the extra deep & long bathtub was a joy after a long day. The furniture is antique & isn’t meant for people that like Marriott style rooms.

Beautifully ornate property. Very impressive decor throughout the common areas. Lots of good walking trails around the palace. The rooms are basic however and the food was abysmal.

Whilst beautifully imposing it interiors are dated
The rooms (on level 1 anyway) are extremely dated and would be closer to a 3 ⭐ anywhere else in the world. The bathroom amenities were disappointing and there is no iron & ironing board in the room. Overall the hotel is beautiful with some stunning features including a magnificent forest to explore. The staff were all friendly enough and we enjoyed a nice meal in the restaurant.

The castle is stunning and the grounds are beautiful. Our room was very small but comfortable. It would have been nice to have tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The staff at reception were lovely and we enjoyed the hearing the history of the building. What let the place down was the food in the beautiful dining room, the service was very slow ( we did get many apologies about that) the quality of the food was okay but very expensive for what it was.

For a 5 star hotel, it was rather shabby and sad. However, an interesting stay in a unusual and unique hotel.

Older hotel with its charm but , lots of cracks on the walls in the room and bathroom, they could use some aromas to be rid of stale scent in the hallways The younger staff in front weee fantastic Breakfast was great The nature and hike grounds are spectacular No air conditioning - be ware if going in summer , you will rely on cooler air from outside which means you have to leave your walk in windows open - as we did all night
