This was my 3rd stay at Grand Hotel Continental. This is hands down my favorite property in Bucharest's town center. It is classy, elegant, the rooms are the most spacious I have had in any hotel anywhere, boasting beautiful period furniture. I also love the touch of a bottle of wine, fruit basket and box with fresh cookies awaiting in the room upon check in. The hotel has a delicious breakfast buffet (speaking from last year's experience, we didn't do breakfast this time). The gym has been updated (since last year) and it's now in full use. The new feature for this year is a Thai spa which unfortunately I didn't get to try because I only did a 2 night stay this time around and had a full schedule. It looks amazing, though. I was told the furniture is authentic Thai and was shipped over from Thailand. I understand there is a sauna that is free to use for all guests.
The front desk has always been nice and friendly and so is the bellman staff.
Around the right corner as you look at the front of the building is the famous historic Capșa pastry shop, which is a must try, so delish. There is a convenience store nearby as well as an ATM, just be aware of people coming over to ask you for $ when you take out cash (begging happens quite a bit, never had an issue with anyone begging, just something to be aware of). It's a 10 minute walk to the old town with traditional historic restaurants such as Caru cu Bere. Also close to Museum of Art, Romanian Athenee.
