Holiday Stay
The visual and decor of the hotel are very nice. We paid for the (best view) room and was disappointed at the actual view. Our TV didn’t work at all and when we asked multiple times we were passed off and nothing was fixed. We did try the restaurant downstairs but after about 40 mins of our food not coming out I noticed the waitress admit to another she forgot to put our order in. Mistakes happen but she tried to blame the kitchen and at that point we needed to go since we had prior engagements. Over all the hotel was nice but personally not worth the price point.

I don’t think the hotel design is conducive to aging clients—ie, the mirrored escalators, black walls, platform beds. What personnel were present were very accommodating. Considering the price of lodging, I would have appreciated a room coffee maker or available coffee thru out the day rather than the limited one urn for the lucky early risers.

Disappointed
Room was not what we expected. Picture of the room shown on the app was nothing like we stayed in. Disappointed. Housekeepers also threw some stuff away that we needed

It’s a mixed bag of a hotel experience
Staying at Public was a strange experience! The room was comfortable and even though very small (as is the norm in NYC), you could tell a lot of thought had gone into the design and maximising storage and hanging space. The bed was very comfortable and the shower was great. It’s the ‘open plan’ type of bathroom so I wouldn’t be comfortable sharing with someone I’m not in a relationship with! Very little privacy. The weird part is that you pay hundreds of dollars a night to not talk to any staff. It’s kind of like a really pricey hostel. Everything is self service (down to making your own key cards) or QR code based. It felt odd and sometimes annoying. We just wanted to go up the roof bar for a drink yet everything online and in the room suggests you have to make reservations. You don’t! After about three tries we finally found one helpful person who told us just to go to Level L and skip the non-residents line. The resort fee is laughable. You can do gym classes or get free coffee in the guest lounge…but only between 6-8am. That’s it really. The location is great and we loved the view from our room. We had a great trip overall but I think I would stay somewhere else next time.

No privacy + loud... but cute hotel
Alright, I'm not super picky and never leave reviews but I stayed at Public this week and felt kind of crazy because of the room setup. I upgraded to the King room with sofa bed and it was really nice! It's a big room with a large closet. It was just me so I was like, great. The first night everything was fine. I'd stayed in the hotel before and knows it gets a little clubby. The second night, the couple in the room connected to mine came back at 1:30am and I could hear literally every word they were saying; they were also blasting music. It sounded like they were in my room with me. I realized the connecting door has basically zero insulation (the light from their room was shining into mine). I didn't feel comfortable going over at 1:30am so I tried contacting hotel security to call them or knock on the door and got no response at all. (I don't think a front desk number exists or I would have tried it.) The couple finally quieted down but I lost a good two hours of sleep. In the morning, I let the two guys down at check-in know what happened and I will say, they were super nice and understanding and agreed to a partial refund, which I felt was fair, so they get 5 stars from me. (TY to those fellas at the hotel the morning of 12/19.) Anyway, I don't know if it was just that particular type of room but it felt insane that I could literally look under the door and essentially see into the other room. Never again! Also, the steamer in my room was filled with mold. :(

Meh
The hotel is an acceptable option, particularly if you’re looking for a place in Soho that’s not overly expensive and don’t plan to spend much time in your room. The location is excellent, and the hotel itself is... fine. The rooms are small but thoughtfully designed, the on-site luggage lockers are convenient, and the common area is pleasant. However, for the price—$400 per night when I stayed—it feels more like a 3-star experience. The self-check-in/out process and minimal staff presence were notable drawbacks. My booking included a free upgrade and a $50 food and beverage credit, but neither was honored because the system didn’t register them, and no staff were available to assist. Another issue: on the morning of my departure, housekeeping knocked on my door at 8:30 a.m. to ask when I planned to check out, even though the check-out time was noon. This was my only direct interaction with staff, and it left a bad impression. Being interrupted so early, especially at this price point, felt inconsiderate and diminished the overall experience. At $150 per night, this would be forgivable—but that wasn’t the case here. I might stay here again if necessary, but I’d prioritize other options in the area, even if they cost a bit more, for a smoother and more guest-focused experience.

Avoid it…
The hotel has barely no service. It’s impossible to get someone to help you. No room whatsoever. The hotel is filled with people who go party on the rooftop. And the rooms aren’t quiet at all. Highly recommend avoiding this place!

Not for us
You’ll either love it or hate it - we were unfortunately the latter. Self check in with no staff around to tell you basic information about your room or the hotel. Basic amenities missing from your room such as tea/coffee, tissues, other bathroom items. Apparently the hotel provides free coffee before 8am - this information we found out on day 2 by chance. Rooms are very small so be mindful if you are an international traveller with 2 medium sized suitcases - there will be limited space to walk around in your room. Might be perfect for a business traveller - wouldn’t recommend if you’re staying for longer than 2 nights.
