Disappointing, dirty, drab
The best part of the Selina hotel was seeing it in my rear-view mirror. We came with a big group of 30, and I just knew we were gonna have problems from the moment I walked in. First, it smelled like sewage. Also, when we got in our rooms, one room had bed bugs, one had a flea in the shower, and all of the floors were dirty. Next, most of the rooms’ AC were broken and the showers would either puddle with water or not get hot. Second, for the room that had the bed bugs in it, they told us that they would have a room the next night for them since they were booked out. When we came back the next day to get into the new room, they said they didn’t have any rooms anymore, so we had to get a hotel room somewhere else for them. Also, they denied the fact that it was bed bugs when it was CLEARLY bed bugs. Third, the hotel is just rundown, dirty, understaffed, etc. I guess you get what you pay for! I will say, the location is prime, but that’s about it for this place. Bite the bullet and pay for a nicer hotel because this place sucks.

Grimy, old facilities with some nice posters and a friendly team doing their best with the place. The desk and chair in the room were old and gross. Bathroom fixtures were kind of yucky. Sour old smell in room. Nice bed and fresh sheets thank goodness. No coffee in room. You have to go to the first floor for coffee and cream. No nondairy options. No tea. No hot water for your own tea. Beautiful shopping area to escape to, to forget about your gross room. It taught me a lesson, to shell out for a sure bet and avoid carpet. I mean, it’s not a Tenderloin hotel. It gets the job done, but it’s not elevated. It was hard to come here after staying at the Chicago Athletic Association for a few days.

Taking consideration that this was the cheapest option I could find from around Chicago, I was really surprised of the good ambience and coziness Selina offered. The details and decoration in my room were very nice too

Unique, a lovely blend of old style building with quirky fun updates, quite appealing. Very good facilities overall. Good neighborhood with complementary facilities and opportunities for enjoying the city.

6/10 Good

Clean rooms and great staff, but got very hot in the rooms (12 floor) especially when the vinal privacy curtains were fully closed. The fan in the room could be turned on but had no blades probably for safety of the top bunkers so not useful. Also two of the four bunks had personal lights that were broken, reported in about it and by day 7 of my stay never fixed. Was fine as a crash pad after a day on the town but not ideal

Quaint hotel with a unique lobby area close to so many good places to eat and shop. Unfortunately, the cleaning staff was super noisy early in the morning and the room felt humid the whole stay.

2/10 Poor

The worst! First of all the place is falling apart. The room was dirty, the wallpaper was falling off the walls, grease on the working desk. Tiles in bathroom were held on by an epoxy that didn’t match the current tiles. Someone was smoking cigarettes on my floor. The front desk attendant knew nothing about the area. I asked him where I could grab some food to go & he directed me 15min away when there was a chipotle up the block and Whole Foods, subway and many more just one more block up. Then when I called before I booked my stay I wanted yo be in walking distance to the Merchandise Mart they said it was a 10min walk in all reality it was more than a 30min walk & I had to end up paying a Uber $20 each way for 4 days. For all that extra money I could have stayed at the Four Seasons! Do not stay here!

This is a non-traditional property, it’s a hostile. Don’t go in expecting pristine hotel. Bed was sooo comfy, AC was cold, it was safe and loved the staff and other guests- a chill vibe and I’d stay there again. Building is older and dated, it’s not posh and all things aren’t perfect, but the basics are!

Not bad. Could be better.
Not terrible. Eclectic. Easy check in. Wouldn’t stay more than one night. Good central and safe location. Just to sleep…it was fine. No tv or small fridge or dresser in room. Stains on carpet. Plaster peeling. Dusty lights. Toilet running all night. Lights randomly came in during the night. Heard neighbors music through walls. Shared fridge and microwave in building

We stayed in a family room, and it was good! 2 bunks and 2 singles. They could have been a bit more comfy as far as the beds go. The hotel was very uniquely styled and we enjoyed that aspect.
