"We arrived in Baddeck for what was to be a several-day hiking excursion in the Cape Breton Highlands park. During our check-in, we were told that the park had just (literally -- an hour before we arrived) been closed indefinitely for fire prevention due to the drought conditions. Needless to say we were extremely disappointed but appreciated the guidance from the staff on our options for alternate activities and recommendations on breakfast options for the following morning. Our room was totally charming and we loved sleeping in the very comfy bed with the window opened to the fresh air. We had dinner at the most-excellent on-site restaurant, The Cable Room -- superb food, superb service. We would definitely stay there again. We'd also recommend The Freight Shed for breakfast -- 5-minute walk, very generous portions, nice friendly staff (if somewhat overworked -- be patient waiting for your bill to arrive), and small-pet friendly: the lady next to us had her Chihuahua in a bag on the table! "
