Top neighbourhoods in Cusco

Cusco Historic Center

Cusco Historic Centre feels like a living time capsule where ancient Incan walls meet Spanish colonial balconies on winding cobblestone streets. The imposing Cathedral and Qorikancha temple foundations tell stories spanning centuries, while artisan workshops in San Blas invite you to watch masters at work. Colourful textiles and exotic fruits create a feast for the senses at buzzing San Pedro Market. Traditional restaurants serve everything from simple quinoa soup to fancy alpaca steaks between exploring the neighborhood's museums and churches. Hotels range from cosy hostels to luxurious suites in converted colonial buildings featuring original Incan stonework. Walking is the best way to explore these narrow streets, though the high altitude might leave you catching your breath.

San Blas

San Blas charms visitors with its steep cobblestone streets and artisan workshops spilling onto pavements. The neighborhood's colonial architecture frames the iconic San Blas Church, while hidden plazas reveal Indigenous vendors selling traditional crafts. Artists hammer silver and weave textiles in open studios where you can watch authentic Peruvian handicrafts come to life. Intimate restaurants serve fusion Andean cuisine in converted colonial mansions with courtyards and original stone walls. Getting around requires sturdy shoes—most visitors walk uphill from Plaza de Armas in about 15 minutes. The steep terrain creates dramatic views over red-tiled roofs towards distant Andean peaks.

San Cristóbal

San Cristóbal area delivers Cusco's greatest hits with a side of breathing room. Iconic Cristo Blanco statue stands watch over cobblestone streets where ancient Incan walls peek through colonial architecture. Art lovers can explore the Pre-Columbian Art Museum while history buffs wander Plaza de las Nazarenas. The hillside location rewards your climb with spectacular panoramic views of Cusco's terracotta rooftops. Family-run restaurants serve authentic Peruvian dishes at prices that won't break your budget. Getting around requires sturdy shoes and a willingness to tackle steep terrain. Taxis can navigate the narrow streets when your legs need a break.

"El hotel es de maravilla todo lindo y limpio pero el ruido de los club es bastante molesto desde las 7pm hasta 6 am no deja a nadie dormir ! Tiene que hacer algo de eso. Deben de dejar una descripción de qué hay clubs cerca así uno puedo considerar si quedarse o no porque si hubiese sabido que eso iba pasar no hubiese rentado ahí . Uno no puede descansar de tanta ruido deberían considerar eso . Eso 3 días no durmimos nada."

Hilton Garden Inn Cusco

Hilton Garden Inn Cusco

10/10 Excellent
"One of the best Hilton properties we have stayed: well maintained with very kind and caring staff. We ordered in-room dining on two occasions and the food was simply outstanding and the service thoughtful and timely. The breakfast buffet spread was eclectic and delectable and again made extra special by some of the kindest staff. We stayed at 7 different hotels during our 3 week trip across South America and this one was clearly the best. The location is of course outstanding , set in a picturesque backdrop of mountains with a beautiful courtyard where you can sit and relax while sipping on coffee or even better, the local drink Chicha morada. We arrived at Cusco after a series of overnight delays and flight diversions which left us totally sapped. This hotel gave us exactly what we needed: a calm, welcoming and relaxing place to rest, recharge and rejuvenate and get ourselves acclimated to high altitude. What also stood out to me is how well the hotel staff treated us with kindness and respect. I will give this hotel 10 out of 5 stars if I can !"

4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Cusco

  1. Book for the cheapest times: The most affordable time to visit Cusco is between January and March, when hotel prices are generally lower. To fully appreciate the city's rich history and culture, a stay of at least 3 to 4 days is recommended. During this time, you can explore significant landmarks and cultural sites, such as ancient ruins, the stunning cathedral, and various historical churches. You may also enjoy budget-friendly tours, visit local museums, shop for unique crafts, and relax in charming cafes. This period offers great value for money, making it an ideal choice for travellers on a budget.
  2. Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: Hotels.com offers travellers a chance to save on their trip to Cusco. By exploring the DealsOpens in a new window section, you may discover attractive hotel deals, while the Last-Minute Deals option could reveal discounted rates as your travel date approaches. Additionally, enabling email alerts or push notifications may notify you of flash sales and special promotions. The Smart Shopping tool, available via the app, allows you to compare hotel prices and amenities, ensuring you're more likely to see updates on price drops and room availability for a timely booking.
  3. Be flexible with dates: Prices can fluctuate depending on factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year, so being flexible with your travel dates may help you find a better deal on your stay in a Cusco hotel. If you’re seeking a distinctive experience, boutique hotels can provide a more personalised touch and occasionally offer improved value. When you book through Hotels.com, we’ll inform you whether the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average.
