Top neighbourhoods in Dubrovnik

Ploce

Ploce offers a peaceful retreat from Dubrovnik's busy Old Town while keeping you within a 15-minute stroll of the action. This upscale area boasts stunning Adriatic Sea panoramas, with Banje Beach and coastal paths perfect for scenic morning walks. Art lovers can explore the Museum of Modern Art housed in a Renaissance villa, while history buffs will appreciate the ancient stone archways of Ploce Gate. The area features luxury hotels and private villas with infinity pools and terraced restaurants serving Mediterranean cuisine with spectacular ocean views. Getting around is easiest on foot despite the steep terrain, though taxis and hotel shuttles are readily available for those looking to save their energy for exploring.

Dubrovnik Old Town

Dubrovnik Old Town's limestone-paved streets reveal centuries of history with every step. Wander through this UNESCO World Heritage site where medieval walls embrace baroque churches, Gothic monasteries, and Renaissance palaces. The gleaming marble Stradun becomes magical at dusk when ancient lamps illuminate architectural treasures like Rector's Palace and Sponza Palace. The entirely pedestrian zone buzzes with restaurants serving fresh Adriatic seafood on terraces overlooking historic squares. Boutique hotels in converted palaces offer luxury amid authentic medieval surroundings. Getting around requires comfortable shoes as you'll navigate narrow alleys, stone steps, and uneven surfaces throughout this car-free historical gem.

Babin Kuk

Babin Kuk serves up stunning beaches with a side of pine forest serenity just outside Dubrovnik's Old Town. Wander from your resort along the Lapad Bay promenade for killer sunset views or take a dip at Copacabana Beach with its distinctive concrete platforms. The peninsula's interior hides gorgeous walking trails that lead to secret coves and breathtaking Adriatic panoramas. Hotel restaurants dominate the food scene with Croatian specialities and international options. Buses run to Old Town every half hour, though the hilly terrain makes exploring on foot a workout worth the views. Most visitors stay in the upscale Valamar hotels that dot the coastline, trading authentic local vibes for resort comfort.

Lapad

Lapad's stunning beaches are the main draw in this coastal Dubrovnik area. Stroll along the tree-lined waterfront promenade and take in those dreamy Adriatic views between dips in the turquoise waters. The peninsula offers plenty of swimming spots, from popular Lapad Beach to the more upscale Copacabana Beach, both perfect for soaking up that Mediterranean sunshine. Fresh seafood dominates the menus at waterfront restaurants where you can watch the sunset with a glass of Croatian wine. Hotels range from mid-range to luxury, with many offering pools and beach access. Frequent city buses connect to Old Town in just 15 minutes, making day trips a breeze.

Dubrovnik Palace

Dubrovnik Palace

10/10 Excellent
"Dubrovnik Palace was wonderful. The location on the Adriatic Sea was beautiful. When you first walk into the lobby with all windows the scenery is spectacular. Pool area was great with plenty of chairs. The service and staff were excellent and great restaurants at hotel. The buffet breakfast was excellent. Everything you want and more. The room was a nice size and balcony was large. I highly recommend this hotel in this beautiful country of Croatia."

Valamar Lacroma Hotel

Valamar Lacroma Hotel

8/10 Good
"Sweet location to escape crowds of old town but a bit isolated. Nice property and rooms but not fancy or elegant, a bit austere for price point. Room smelled of mildew, stairwell of fish. Lacroma is one of multiple Vallara hotels on shared property, originally developed as a government project to build tourism. They have a five-star propery on the water. Lacroma is one of the four-star hotels across a park and set back from it. Lacroma seems intent on reminding you that they are not the five star hotel in the cluster. Some furniture in room is heavily chipped and beat up. Breakfast is robust but not high quality. Poached eggs were invariably overcooked to hard boiled. Fresh fruit never included more than generic melon, which was always cut crudely with pieces of rind left on slices. There was lots of sliced ham and bacon but not a piece of smoked fish in sight despite being in Dubrovnik. Staff were kind and helpful but there are a lot of folks dedicated to selling tours in lobby. Speaking of which, nothing is free. Bottled water is not provided in room. Customer service was inconsistent. At one point, we asked reception if we could get beach towels to take to a neighboring island for a visit. A clerk kindly sent us down to the spa and said they provide them. When we asked at Spa Services, the clerk told us that Reception was wrong and that we have to get them from the pool area. She said this to us across a stack of beach towels on her work area."

"Breakfast was ok at best but included. The dinner buffet surprisingly good which we had one night. Bed was old and made a lot of noise and there was no shower curtain so water ended up everywhere each time. The whole system of lights and housekeeping, dnd is old and has no instructions on it so several mix ups with that. Great views and historic property."

4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Dubrovnik

  1. Book for the cheapest times: The most affordable time to visit Dubrovnik is during February, March, and November, when hotel prices tend to be lower. For a budget-friendly getaway, staying for at least 3 to 4 days is recommended to fully appreciate the city’s historic landmarks and cultural sites. During your visit, you can explore the stunning architecture, including the iconic castle and marina, as well as enjoy excursions that highlight the beautiful sea and unique unescosites. This timeframe offers great value for money, allowing you to experience the rich history and vibrant culture of Dubrovnik without breaking the bank.
  2. Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: To discover last-minute deals to Dubrovnik, visit the DealsOpens in a new window or Last-Minute Deals section on Hotels.com, where you may find discounted rates on hotels close to your travel date. Enabling email alerts or push notifications will help you stay informed about flash sales and special promotions, ensuring you don’t miss opportunities to save. Additionally, the Smart Shopping tool available via the app allows you to compare hotel prices and amenities, enhancing your chances of finding the ideal accommodation. If prices drop or rooms become available, you could be among the first to know, making it easier to plan your getaway.
  3. Be flexible with dates: Prices may fluctuate due to various factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year. Therefore, being flexible with your travel dates could help you find a more favourable rate for your stay in a Dubrovnik hotel. If you're seeking something distinctive, boutique hotels often provide a more personalised experience and may offer better value. When you book through Hotels.com, we will inform you whether the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. Should the price be on the higher end, we can suggest alternative dates that might help you discover a more competitively priced option.
  4. Consider your location: Hotels near the city centre typically tend to be more expensive, but with Dubrovnik's excellent public transport links, you may discover a more affordable independent hotel a bit further out that remains well connected. For those wishing to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often great value for money to be found. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
