A lovely comfortable hotel

The Kings Arms was near our main route but in a quiet village. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room and bathroom were very clean. The bed was very comfortable and there were considerate touches eg. a little bottle of skimmed milk and a couple of sachets of oat milk as well as the usual tea and coffee. There was a socket conveniently below a mirror so I was able to dry and style my hair without any problem. The only criticism was that our room was above the lounge and we were subjected to loud singing and playing for over 3 hours. It was not possible to sleep until it stopped.

Wasn’t aware until shortly before our visit that we’d booked during the Appleby Horse Fair so following a Police advisory, they weren’t selling alcohol. Which was a shame as I like to drink local brewery beer when away, but we were allowed to bring our own bottles. In all other respects, our stay was amazing!

Beautiful room, amazing bed and shower. Lovely quiet area in beautiful area. Staff were very friendly and welcoming, but seemed under-staffed. Breakfast was under-whelming.

A great find just off the A66

This is a great find! From the welcome to check out everyone was super helpful. We ate the most delicious food, the servings were huge and all beautifully presented. The room was well presented with plenty of towels and adequate hanging space for our short stay. The breakfast was again very good and cooked to order. We will be back.

Amazing stay food lovely, room was out of this world big and spacious, massive bathroom with a bath, nothing to much trouble messaged and asked if they had a travel cot before arrival even gave us a fold up single bed for one our children. Only downside was no tv in the room. Breakfast was beautiful however normal sausage would have been preferred to smoked bacon and black pudding again not a major issue as opted not to have sausage, black pudding and haggis.

Nice but not worth the money

The staff were lovely and very helpful. The food was delicious. The hotel was in good condition, with lots of comfy settees and chairs in the bar/lounge area. On the down side: The room, though nicely presented and furnished, had not been thought through, for the needs of weary travellers. There was nowhere to put your case, (without tripping over it during the night) apart from on the floor, just outside the en-suite. There was a fancy metal unit with a few coat hooks and a small shelf, but nowhere to lay out clothes or hang up clothes. I think this is the first hotel in over 25 years, that has not had a TV or even a radio, in the room. They did however have 2 comfy armchairs, but no table to put a cup or a glass. Which meant that, you had to hold your drink and could not do a lot else. The bathroom had one tiny shelf, although it was a very large room, again it needed more shelving for toiletries. There were a couple of nice touches, i.e. a little jar of sweets in the bedroom and a jar of cotton pad and buds, in the bathroom. Overall, it was very much overpriced for the night and the facilities, especially at this time of the year. In January we stayed in a large estate house for 2 nights and we upgraded twice to get a ground floor room. We only paid about £10 more for those two nights, with everything I mentioned above, than we did for this one night stay.

A great night during Storm Amy!

Excellent atmosphere- very friendly towards dog- was very wet when we got there but there was a dog towel in hallway and dog bed in the room . Room very clean and unfussy. Hotel itself has a lovely comfortable cosy feel about it. Staff very attentive and food v good too! Would recommend!

A pleasant overnight stay

We had a pleasant overnight stay on our way home from Scotland. The room was fine, very clean and well presented. There was no TV but we didn't need it. The bathroom had an easy access walk-in shower which was good for anyone with disabilities. However, we believe that all the rooms were accessed by a short but steep flight of stairs which were not easy for a disabled customer. Dinner was very good from a reasonably good menu.

This pub with rooms is perfect for what it is. Room was clean, modern, pleasant. Food was great. People were friendly, kind and welcoming. Close to motorway but quiet and in a pretty village. Used this place to split my journey from London to friends in Scotland. Will use it again. Bravo.

1 night stay

Called on the last leg of a 3 week tour, hotel was conveniently located near the M6 and easy to find. We were well looked after from arrival to departure and nothing was too much trouble. We dined at the hotel and the food was excellent - would definitely recommend.

What a welcoming and friendly place. Everyone was so nice and we had a lovely stay. Our dog was welcomed and enjoyed the quiet surroundings and green areas nearby for a little walk at night.

We stayed for just one night during our visit to the Lake District. While the hotel itself was comfortable, there wasn't much to do nearby, which made it a bit challenging to keep the kids entertained. I was surprised to find that there was no TV in the room. While this wasn't a major issue, it would have been helpful to have some entertainment for the children since we didn't bring anything else with us. On a positive note, the breakfast was very good and definitely a highlight of our stay.
