The Mallyan Spout Hotel

The Mallyan Spout Hotel

10/10 Excellent
"The hotel was beautiful, and the staff were top class. The area was superb and only a short stroll to the 'Heartbeat' tv setting. Everything about the hotel was excellent, with the exception of the restaurant. We used the restaurant on the Sunday evening and ordered the sirloin steak meal for myself and my wife. The bill was £64 for what was the worst garbage I have ever tasted. The steak was similar to a sirloin steak that one can purchase in sainsbury for around a fiver. We requested our steaks to be 'well done', yet the bottom of my plate was very bloody. It was almost impossible to cut or chew the steak, and I am pretty certain a good vet could have brought it back to life. The 'chips' were the size of roast potatoes and were mostly uncooked. The pepper sauce tasted like it had come out of a packet, and the onion rings were almost the same circumference as the plate. This meal was excessively overpriced, and to be honest, even my dog would have probably refused to eat it. I would recommend the hotel to anybody, it was fantastic, but your head chef is as much a head chef as I am a Hollywood movie star."

"I travel a lot for work to hotels all around the world and I can honestly say this was one of the cleanest hotel's I've ever been in... on top of this the staff were super-friendly and the attention to detail was better than some 4 or 5 star hotels I've stayed at. A proper, well-run independent hotel experience!"

Comfortable, good size bed and adequate storage. Location is on a main road but is very quiet considering and has the bonus of buses running regularly, so no need for the car. We had breakfast which had mainy options and money off if you prebook. Real lovely and very affordable."

4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Whitby

  1. Book for the cheapest times: For a budget-friendly trip, visiting Whitby between January and March can be a smart choice, as hotel prices may drop to lower prices, offering great value for money. A stay of at least 2 to 3 days is ideal for exploring the town’s notable landmarks, rich history, and cultural offerings, including its historical port, castle, churches, cathedral, and marina. This affordable option makes Whitby an attractive destination on a budget for those keen to experience its heritage and charm.
  2. Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: For Whitby, you may discover attractive offers by checking the DealsOpens in a new window section on Hotels.com, where discounted options might be available. If you search for rooms close to your travel date, the Last-Minute Deals section could have appealing offers. Moreover, Hotels.com’s app features Smart Shopping , a tool designed to help travellers compare hotel prices and amenities. By enabling alerts, you're more likely to see any flash sales and price drops, ensuring you never miss the chance for a timely getaway.
  3. Be flexible with dates: Prices may vary depending on factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and time of year, so being flexible with your dates in Whitby might help you save on your stay. For those seeking something a little different, boutique hotels can offer a more personalised experience and occasionally better value. When you book with Hotels.com, we will inform you if the price for your selected dates is higher or lower than the average. If it appears to be on the higher side, we may suggest alternative dates that could help you find a more attractive deal.
  4. Consider your location: Hotels situated near the city centre generally tend to be more expensive; however, with Whitby's superb public transport links, you may discover a more affordable independent hotel located slightly further out that is still well-connected. For those keen to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often excellent value for money to be found. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
