There was only one staff member at the front desk assisting dozens of guests who were arriving after their flights at LaGuardia had been canceled. For a hotel that primarily serves airport travelers, flight cancellations and the resulting influx of stranded passengers should be a foreseeable situation, and the hotel should be adequately prepared to handle it.
The front desk employee did her best under extremely difficult circumstances and remained courteous throughout. Unfortunately, a reservation issue, compounded by the fact that her manager was unavailable, left her without the authority to resolve the most pressing problem: several guests had reservations for king rooms that were no longer available, yet she could not reassign us to rooms with queen beds without managerial approval.
The result was an unnecessarily chaotic and frustrating experience, particularly for guests who had already endured canceled flights and arrived at the hotel expecting a smooth and efficient check-in process.
