Zadar Old Town

Zadar Old Town captivates with Roman ruins, medieval churches, and innovative installations like the Sea Organ playing melodies as waves hit the shore. History buffs will love St. Donatus Church's circular walls and Byzantine mosaics in marble-paved squares. The Sun Salutation disc creates a magical light show at sunset along the waterfront promenade. Traditional konobas serve fresh Adriatic seafood while artisan shops sell handmade jewellery and Croatian wines from medieval stone buildings. The car-free area is perfect for wandering honey-colored streets that open onto spacious squares. Boutique hotels in converted historic palaces offer authentic stays with original architectural elements.

Borik

Borik serves up beachy perfection along Zadar's stunning Adriatic coastline. Crystal-clear waters lap against pebble beaches where you can soak up the Croatian sunshine all day. Pine-shaded walking paths wind along the waterfront, offering dreamy sunset views that'll have your social media followers swooning. Resort life rules here with plenty of pools, water sports, and coastal relaxation. Hotels dominate this seaside haven with upscale amenities and international dining options. Getting around is a breeze—you can walk everywhere within the resort area or catch a 15-minute bus ride into Zadar's historic centre. Beach bars and hotel terraces provide laid-back evening vibes for watching the sun melt into the Adriatic.

Arbanasi

Arbanasi offers a peaceful escape from Zadar's tourist crowds with its traditional Mediterranean charm. Stone houses with red-tiled roofs line quiet streets that lead to rocky Adriatic beaches. Kolovare Beach is just steps away, perfect for swimming in crystal-clear waters. Albanian cultural influences are visible in the older buildings, giving this 18th-century settlement its unique character. Family-run konobas serve fresh seafood and regional specialities in this authentic area. Private apartments and guesthouses provide intimate accommodation with genuine Croatian hospitality. While public transport is limited, the walk into central Zadar rewards you with beautiful coastal views and a glimpse of local life.

Komoševa

Komoševa delivers authentic Croatian life without the tourist frenzy. This peaceful residential retreat lets you experience everyday local routines, from morning coffee rituals to evening area chats. Explore tree-lined streets with traditional stone houses and modern blocks that create an intimate Mediterranean atmosphere away from crowded sights. Local konobas serve up home-style Dalmatian cooking at prices that won't break your budget. Family-run guesthouses and private apartments offer mid-range accommodation with genuine Croatian hospitality. While public transit is limited, the quiet streets make for pleasant walks before heading to nearby Preko Harbour or Fort Saint Michael.

Learn more about Zadar

Along the seafront promenade, the Sea Organ plays haunting melodies created by waves pushing air through underwater pipes. Nearby, the Sun Salutation captures daylight and creates a mesmerising light show after sunset. Roman ruins stand alongside medieval churches in this ancient walled city, where history feels casually abundant. The Cathedral of St. Anastasia towers over narrow limestone streets that open suddenly into sunny squares. Duck into the Museum of Ancient Glass to see delicate Roman artefacts displayed with surprising wit. After exploring Zadar's old town, join locals at sunset when they gather by the sea. The Times didn't call this the "entertainment centre of the Adriatic" for nothing.

Hotel A'mare

Hotel A'mare

10/10 Excellent
"Loved our stays at Hotel A’Mare. We stayed twice over the past couple of weeks - once arriving from Geneva and again after returning from Sestrunj and the service was fantastic both times. From reception to housekeeping and the restaurant team, everyone was brilliant. And the breakfast is an absolute feast - don’t miss it! On our second stay, Marco and Petra at reception warmly welcomed us back and really looked after us. Having travelled to 58 countries myself and my husband to 64, we’ve stayed in hundreds of hotels and met a lot of hotel staff over the years — and Marco is one of those people you remember. An absolute legend. We arrived late and he was worried about whether we’d managed to get dinner; when he heard we were leaving at 5am, he immediately wanted to see what he could arrange for us to take some food with us. Just incredibly thoughtful & kind. The hotel itself feels new, fresh and spotlessly clean, but it’s really the staff who make it. They are absolute gems and such a credit to the hotel. If we’re back in Zadar, we’ll definitely stay at Hotel A’Mare again."

"The property was centrally located, very convenient to the old town sites and restaurants. The bed rooms were in a loft area of the apartment, suitable for our family. The washing machine worked well, and the apartment had the amenities we wanted. The parking is a bit of a challenge(expensive) but it’s the price you pay to stay in the old town area."

10/10 Excellent
"Location for the beach and the old town was great. Only 15 mins to the entrance but it's another 15mins to the end of the old town so you will walk 25-30 mins back in the evenings most evenings. But the location to the beach and the walk everyday more than makes up for this. Breakfast was great - good mix of hot and continental. Really good quality scrambled eggs. Limited lunch and dinner options for vegetarians but plenty of great food options in the old town. Rooms were comfortable and cleaned daily to a high standard."

"Wish we had stayed longer as we really enjoyed the stay! Great view from our room and was close to everything we needed. Be mindful you will need to carry your luggage from the nearest gate to the hotel as it is in the old town where cars are not permitted. We were surprised to find our room walls outfitted with mirrors, which was low key kind of a vibe. Enjoy."

4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Zadar

  1. Book for the cheapest times: For travellers on a budget, January to March is an ideal period to visit Zadar, as hotel prices may drop during these months, offering great value for money. A stay of at least 3 to 4 days is recommended to explore the city's rich blend of landmarks, history, and culture. Visitors can enjoy the historical monuments, ancient churches, and the unique charm of the sea, complemented by delightful cafes and opportunities for leisurely walking and sailing, ensuring an affordable and memorable experience.
  2. Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: For attractive hotel deals to Zadar, visit Hotels.com and explore the DealsOpens in a new window section, where you may discover discounted rates. For last-minute hotel deals, check the Last-Minute Deals section or enable email alerts and push notifications to stay informed about flash sales. Additionally, the Smart Shopping feature on the app is a handy comparison tool that could help you compare hotel prices and amenities, ensuring you are more likely to see opportunities to save on your trip.
  3. Be flexible with dates: Prices may differ depending on factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and time of year, so being flexible with your dates might help you save on your stay at a Zadar hotel. For travellers seeking distinctive experiences, boutique hotels may offer a more personalised service and sometimes better value. When you book with Hotels.com, we will inform you if the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average, and if it appears to be on the higher side, we may suggest alternative dates that could help you find a better deal.
  4. Consider your location: Hotels situated near the city centre usually tend to be more expensive, but thanks to Zadar's excellent public transport links, you may discover a more affordable independent hotel a bit further out that remains well connected. For those interested in exploring alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often great value for money to be found. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
