Top neighbourhoods in Zadar

Zadar Old Town

Zadar Old Town captivates with Roman ruins, medieval churches, and innovative installations like the Sea Organ playing melodies as waves hit the shore. History buffs will love St. Donatus Church's circular walls and Byzantine mosaics in marble-paved squares. The Sun Salutation disc creates a magical light show at sunset along the waterfront promenade. Traditional konobas serve fresh Adriatic seafood while artisan shops sell handmade jewellery and Croatian wines from medieval stone buildings. The car-free area is perfect for wandering honey-colored streets that open onto spacious squares. Boutique hotels in converted historic palaces offer authentic stays with original architectural elements.

Borik

Borik serves up beachy perfection along Zadar's stunning Adriatic coastline. Crystal-clear waters lap against pebble beaches where you can soak up the Croatian sunshine all day. Pine-shaded walking paths wind along the waterfront, offering dreamy sunset views that'll have your social media followers swooning. Resort life rules here with plenty of pools, water sports, and coastal relaxation. Hotels dominate this seaside haven with upscale amenities and international dining options. Getting around is a breeze—you can walk everywhere within the resort area or catch a 15-minute bus ride into Zadar's historic centre. Beach bars and hotel terraces provide laid-back evening vibes for watching the sun melt into the Adriatic.

Arbanasi

Arbanasi offers a peaceful escape from Zadar's tourist crowds with its traditional Mediterranean charm. Stone houses with red-tiled roofs line quiet streets that lead to rocky Adriatic beaches. Kolovare Beach is just steps away, perfect for swimming in crystal-clear waters. Albanian cultural influences are visible in the older buildings, giving this 18th-century settlement its unique character. Family-run konobas serve fresh seafood and regional specialities in this authentic area. Private apartments and guesthouses provide intimate accommodation with genuine Croatian hospitality. While public transport is limited, the walk into central Zadar rewards you with beautiful coastal views and a glimpse of local life.

Komoševa

Komoševa delivers authentic Croatian life without the tourist frenzy. This peaceful residential retreat lets you experience everyday local routines, from morning coffee rituals to evening area chats. Explore tree-lined streets with traditional stone houses and modern blocks that create an intimate Mediterranean atmosphere away from crowded sights. Local konobas serve up home-style Dalmatian cooking at prices that won't break your budget. Family-run guesthouses and private apartments offer mid-range accommodation with genuine Croatian hospitality. While public transit is limited, the quiet streets make for pleasant walks before heading to nearby Preko Harbour or Fort Saint Michael.

Learn more about Zadar

Along the seafront promenade, the Sea Organ plays haunting melodies created by waves pushing air through underwater pipes. Nearby, the Sun Salutation captures daylight and creates a mesmerising light show after sunset. Roman ruins stand alongside medieval churches in this ancient walled city, where history feels casually abundant. The Cathedral of St. Anastasia towers over narrow limestone streets that open suddenly into sunny squares. Duck into the Museum of Ancient Glass to see delicate Roman artefacts displayed with surprising wit. After exploring Zadar's old town, join locals at sunset when they gather by the sea. The Times didn't call this the "entertainment centre of the Adriatic" for nothing.

"A relatively new and well-maintained hotel in Zadar, with the Old Town just a short boat-taxi ride away. The facilities were all in excellent condition, and the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was delicious, and the terrace at the front of the hotel was a lovely spot to relax with a drink while enjoying the sea views."

"The hotel was wonderful! But I need to start with the neighborhood because that’s how our stay started. The immediate neighborhood looked sketchy, especially because we pulled up on the side but we learned from the locals that it is very safe and we became very comfortable the longer we stayed. The hotel was amazing. Breakfast was huge and they immediately offered to reserve a large table setting for our large group. We also ate at the hotel for dinner and an appetizer lunch and were very pleased. The staff was quick to help us. The place was super clean and comfortable and the suites are designed for both comfort and practicality. It’s a mile walk to restaurants and the old town. We varied in age from 13-75 so a few less mobile individuals used uber or Bolt which was easy. Old town was lovely. I would have stayed longer for a hotel massage!"

"Very central location and entirely relaxing stay (very much needed given August heat and heavy Zadar tourist traffic). Room was very spacious, calming, bed very comfortable, bathroom generously sized and everything worked. Staff were efficient and friendly. Breakfast was very generous. A bit or a luxury/pricey, but would seek to stay again."

"We stayed for 2 nights at this excellent small hotel. The staff were very welcoming and exceptionally helpful. The dining was great, both at the included breakfast and also in the hotel's Kastel restaurant. Our room on the 3rd floor was large, comfortable and well air-conditioned. The main attractions of the Old Town of Zadar (Sea Organ, Roman Forum, St. Anastasia Cathedral, a range of good restaurants, etc.) are all within an easy walk. I see someone else posted complaint about noise from a bar across the street. Yes, you could hear it if your room faced the street and harbour as ours did; but it stopped both nights by 11pm, so was not really a problem for sleeping."

We enjoyed lovely meals at Planika and Bracera and a particular mention to Alexandria who provided excellent customer service throughout our entire meal. The hotel’s own restaurant where breakfast and dinner is served is also excellent with very tasty dishes and again great customer service. Thank you, we will return"

Be flexible with dates: Prices may differ depending on factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and time of year, so being flexible with your dates might help you save on your stay at a Zadar hotel. For travellers seeking distinctive experiences, boutique hotels may offer a more personalised service and sometimes better value. When you book with Hotels.com, we will inform you if the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average, and if it appears to be on the higher side, we may suggest alternative dates that could help you find a better deal.
  4. Consider your location: Hotels situated near the city centre usually tend to be more expensive, but thanks to Zadar's excellent public transport links, you may discover a more affordable independent hotel a bit further out that remains well connected. For those interested in exploring alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often great value for money to be found. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
